Chapter 242.2. Report

After completing the report to the king, our mission was deemed complete, and we were disbanded.

Leaving the audience chamber, we were escorted to the city gates by the 2 Holy Knights.

It happened in the corridors of the castle.

As we walked, two young men approached from the opposite direction, the same ones I encountered before departing on the mission with Gerald-san. As they passed, they glanced at Myarla, sneered, and greeted Gerald-san.

"Good job, Gerald. This time must have been tough. Going on a mission with adventurers and even these beast people."

"Exactly, it's troubling even for His Majesty. Gerald deserves proper recognition, not this kind of harassment. If you want, we can listen to your complaints later."

Saying this, the two young men patted Gerald-san on the shoulder and tried to pass by. However...

"No."

Gerald-san uttered the word as if squeezing it out.

"Hmm? Did you say something, Gerald?"

"I heard 'no.' What's different?"

The two young men stopped and stared at Gerald-san. He pointed to Myarla and said clearly,

"She is Holy Knight Myarla, not a 'beast person'. And His Majesty is not that kind of person either. It was all my misunderstanding."

The two young men on the receiving end blinked their eyes. But one of them quickly regained composure and patted the other on the shoulder.

"Let's go."

As they walked away, they muttered audibly,

"Gerald must have been affected by the poison of that beast person. Despite warning himself so much."

"Dirty beast person. Don't think you can influence us too."

It sounded deliberate enough to be heard.

Gerald-san and Myarla didn't argue with them.

Kazane-san, with a hand on her hip, looked up at the sky in disbelief, while Yuzuki sighed deeply.

On the other hand, Myarla looked at Gerald-san with anxious eyes.

"Gerald-san... It's my fault again..."

But Gerald-san shook his head and smiled at the other holy knight.

"It's okay, Myarla. I'll talk to them. They're not bad people. They'll understand, I'm sure."

"Are you okay, Gerald...?"

"I don't need your worry. As long as there is justice in this heart of mine, there's nothing to fear."

Gerald-san said, patting his chest. Seeing this, Myarla chuckled.

"Gerald-san is a true holy knight."

"It's not like that. I'm still inexperienced. You, Myarla, are a splendid holy knight."

"Is that so? Well, I'll do my best to become a splendid Holy Knight too."

"Yeah. I also need to become a splendid holy knight."

Watching their interaction, I felt a little relieved.

Everything hadn't been neatly resolved, but Myarla had gained a strong ally.

I believed that things would surely move in a positive direction.

At least, that's what I thought.

Afterward, we were seen off to the city gates by Gerald-san and Myarla. We boarded a carriage prepared by the castle, along with Kazane-san and Yuzuki.

It seemed we would be taken to a luxury inn that had already been arranged.

I felt like I had become quite extravagant.

Inside the moving carriage, Kazane-san muttered,

"But those two seem to have a good relationship now. They might really end up together someday."

"Hehe, if that happens, I'll really be fooled by Myarla."

"Oh, yeah. That might be true."

I hadn't told them about Gerald-san falling for Myarla at first sight.

It was a man's promise, and I had conveyed it to them.

That was also a samurai's mercy.

Then, Yuzuki, seemingly having a thought, leaned toward me.

"Hehehe, so, can we fool you, senpai?"

"Yeah, you know... My heart is already thoroughly conquered by you two, so..."

Caught between Kazane-san and Yuzuki, with nowhere to escape, I got approached.

"We still have a long way to go. So, meow♪ Let's fool Senpai together, meow♪"

"Nya, nya♪ Daichi-kun, pat us-nya♪"

With cat-like gestures, Yuzuki and Kazane-san leaned in.

My soul got overkilled in an instant, and I died on the spot, internally spraying blood from my nose as I gently patted the two of them.

Above my head, a small griffin chirped, "Kuppi, kuppi♪" as usual.

The carriage, carrying us, swayed and rattled as it progressed along the night streets of the royal capital.
