Demon Prince 55.1

Test

Chapter 55.1. Dailan, The Western Town

Today, like always, I’m heading to the Adventurers’ Guild.

Ever since I reincarnated, I’ve been working in some way or another, but maybe the adventurer life suits me better than I thought.

Sure, there’s always a danger in this line of work, but traveling to various places and seeing new sights is a lot of fun.

Today, since I’ve reached D-rank, I decided to broaden my horizons a little and came to a western town from the capital.

This is one of the towns I used to visit regularly back when I worked as a healing mage.

“Hmm, it’s smaller than the capital, but it’s a nice, clean town.”

“This is Dailan, the western town. It has a fishing port, and I hear the seafood here is delicious.”

If I were to compare it to modern Earth, it would be like Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

When I think of Akashi, I think of octopus.

“Do you think they sell takoyaki here?”

“Octopus? What’s that?”

“You mean that slimy, creepy thing? Who’d eat that?”

“...What?”

Could it be that there’s no custom of eating octopus here?

Even though Elmbarn’s geography includes areas that resemble Japan on modern Earth.

“Have you never tried it?”

“Do you mean that thing some people call a devil fish?”

On modern Earth, I’ve heard that in the West, octopuses are called devil fish and regarded as creatures of the devil.

Well, in this world, the real devils are us demonkin.

“No, we don’t call them that. They’re just octopuses. But they’re too creepy to eat.”

“Indeed. Even fishermen wouldn’t eat them. Are they really edible?”

It seems the very idea of eating octopus doesn’t exist here.

Then again, I wonder if the octopuses I know are the same as the ones in this world.

“Just to clarify, the octopus you all know is a slimy creature with eight legs that squirts ink, right?”

“That’s the one.”

“No doubt about it.”

“Same here!”

“I have no idea.”

“Me neither. Tina and I grew up in a mountain village far from the sea, so we don’t know much about sea creatures. This is our first time seeing the ocean.”

Today, Tina and Nina have joined our usual group.

The plan is to let Tina and Nina gain some field experience.

Hati is taking a break this time.

“So, Tina and Nina, this is your first time seeing the sea, huh? It’s winter now, so no swimming, but swimming in the summer sea feels amazing. Let’s go to the beach in the summer.”

“Yes!” “I can’t wait!”

I patted their heads as they smiled innocently.

It reminds me of when Yuu was little.

“So, are we heading to the Adventurers’ Guild first to pick up a request?”

“That’s the plan.”

“Aren’t you going to greet the lord of the town?”

“Hm? Nah, no need. I didn’t notify them in advance, and if I get caught up with them, it’ll take forever. I won’t have time to work as an adventurer.”

The lord governing this area has a mansion in this town.

We’ve met before, but they’re not my favorite type to deal with.

Not a bad person, just… not someone I’d like to meet if I can help it.

“Depending on the request we take, we can have some seafood after we’re done.”

“Yay!”

“I can’t wait!” “Me too!”

If I can get my hands on some octopus, I might make takoyaki.

I’ll ask Stefania to craft a takoyaki pan for me.

“So, this is the Adventurers’ Guild for this town?”

“Doesn’t look much different from the one in the capital.”

Just like modern Earth’s convenience stores or banks, they’ve probably standardized the building design and system so it’s familiar wherever you go.

“Hey, buddy! Got some fine ladies with ya, huh? Mind sharing one with me?”

The moment we stepped into the guild, a drunk adventurer started harassing us.

And in the most cliché way possible.

Yuu and Ai hid behind me, but unfortunately, the “fine ladies” he was talking about were probably Noella and Lily.

Let’s just ignore him.

“Hey, you listening, you overdressed butler-looking guy?”

“Huh? Me?”

Wait, is he picking on Sebas?

“Yeah, you. Parading around with all those ladies. Spare me one. That black-haired one’s just my type, even if she’s a bit flat! Gahahaha!”

Th-this drunk…

Not only is he treating me like a woman, but he’s calling me his type…

I’m getting goosebumps!

Before I could decide what to do, other adventurers in the guild had already beaten him to a pulp.

“What the hell, you guys!”

“That’s our line, you idiot.”

“Do you even realize who you just picked a fight with? That’s the Demon Prince’s party from this country.”

“And the benefactor of this town!”

“They’ve healed us adventurers with their magic and even saved the sick.”

“You’d be lucky if you’re not killed for bothering them.”

I wouldn’t kill someone just for causing trouble.

However, I was a bit irritated earlier.

But if the lord hears about this…

That drunkard might not see tomorrow.

The drunk adventurer, now sober and pale-faced, bowed deeply and ran away.

Since I wasn’t planning to take things further, I thanked the adventurers and headed to the quest board to pick today’s request.

“Wow, Jun’s beauty really shines through in times like these.”

“Well, onii-chan’s tall, so he can easily pass for an adult woman.”

You guys could try supporting me instead of making fun of me.

“Noella, what should we do in situations like that?”

“Should we just beat them up?”

“Let’s ignore them as long as Jun-sama does. But if they cross the line, go ahead and deal with them.”

“Yes, ma’am!”

Is that really something a maid should say?

Also, could Tina and Nina actually take someone like that down?

“If those other guys hadn’t stepped in, I’d have handled him myself. That drunk’s lucky.”

Sebas is surprisingly intense.

Is he bloodthirsty or something?

“Jun, how about this? A quest to hunt Mountain Buffalo. All-you-can-eat barbecue!”

Mountain Buffalo is a B-rank giant magical beast about the size of a truck.

It’s herbivorous, and its meat is said to be delicious.

“An all-you-can-eat barbecue is tempting, but it’s not ideal for Tina and Nina to gain experience.”

“Oh, right. Then we need something weaker and with decent numbers.”

“Onii-chan, how about this one? A quest to eliminate a group of Sahuagin in a cave.”

Sahuagin, huh?

Solo, they’re E-rank. In groups, D-rank.

But if it’s underwater, solo becomes C-rank, and groups jump to B-rank.

“Depends on the cave’s conditions. If it’s underwater, it’s a no-go. No way am I doing a polar plunge.”

“Let’s ask about the cave at the reception. We can decide after that.”

No one seemed opposed to Yuu’s suggestion, so I followed her lead.

Luckily, the counters were empty, so we went to the nearest one.

“Excuse me, I’d like to ask about the Sahuagin extermination quest.”

“Y-y-yes!”
