Chapter 36.1. The School Is Complete

The school is finished.

It took about two years to decide to build it.

Considering that Ai, Yuu, and I had the knowledge to guide us, I’d say it was quite fast, wouldn't you?

The most time-consuming part was training the healers.

Out of the first 50, 32 made it to the intermediate level.

18 reached the advanced level.

As planned, the 32 intermediate healers will serve as teachers.

Schools have been built not only in the capital but in various cities across the nation.

However, facilities dedicated to learning healing magic are only in the capital.

Hospitals have also been built in various regions.

A total of six. Three advanced healers will be dispatched to each hospital.

The three assigned to the capital hospital are Frederica, Nicole, and Belinda.

When it was decided that Frederica would work at the capital hospital, she said…

"Thanks to Jun-sama, I can work as a healer for the people. Thank you very much."

"Yeah. From now on, I hope the three of you will take the lead in healing the people of the capital. Please take care of it."

"Yes! But, um... if there's something I don't understand, can I ask for your guidance?"

"Of course. If it's something I can help with."

"Thank you! In return, I'll treat you to my homemade cooking!"

"Oh, really? I'll look forward to it!"

"Yes! Leave it to me!"

Well, she seemed very motivated for her upcoming work.

I hope they all work hard to heal the people.

Since the assassination attempt, nothing like that has happened again, probably thanks to the continued strict vigilance.

However, healers scattered across the nation are still assigned guards for the time being.

Father Aslad seems to place great importance on the healers and has even established a new unit specifically for their protection.

He's also issued orders to the local magistrates and stationed military forces in towns with schools and hospitals to protect the healers.

Each school has around 300 students in its first class.

That may seem like a small number, considering there are still no schools throughout the entire country, but it's understandable.

The schools are new, and not very well-known, and many people aren't yet sure what they offer.

Plus, even though it's aimed at children between 6 and 12, many families rely on their children as valuable labor.

Since attending isn't completely free, it's only the children from more well-off families who can attend for now.

Given that the schools are still new and unproven, this is just the way things are for now.

Eventually, I hope it will be like in Japan, where every town has schools and hospitals, and all children can attend once they turn six.

And so, the opening and entrance ceremonies for the capital’s school began.

Father Aslad and Mother Eliza were present.

Yuu, Ai, and I also attended in the VIP seats.

Darmdatt, who came as a trainee, and Kuon, Cornelia, and Yufa, representing Fremlira, were also in the VIP seats.

Father Aslad was giving a speech, fitting for a demon king representing the nation.

If only he acted like that all the time.

Since I played a central role in establishing the schools, they wanted me to give a speech, but I declined.

Even though I’m 11 now, I still look like a child.

A formal speech just wouldn’t suit me, and honestly, I found the idea tiresome.

Yuu and Ai also declined.

The first headmaster of the school was Pierre, the father of Sebastun and grandfather of Noella, who was both my father's teacher and the previous demon king’s butler.

Since he’s a demon, he looks like he’s in his later years, but apparently, he’s close to 400 years old.

When Father Aslad took over as demon king, Pierre retired along with the previous demon king.

But since he had too much free time, he was appointed as the first headmaster.

It might seem like a hasty appointment, but being Sebastun’s father and serving as the demon king’s butler for years isn’t just for show. He’s very capable, and we can trust him.

By the way, after the previous demon king retired, he and his wife went on a tour around the various countries, and they haven’t been heard from in over 20 years.

The previous demon king and his wife are my and Yuu’s grandparents in this world.

Since I’ve never met them, I just assumed they had passed away, but to think they were off traveling.

Still, after 20 years without a word, I couldn’t help but wonder if something happened to them…

"That’s impossible. The phrase ‘won’t die even if you kill them’ applies to them. They’re probably just having too much fun and forgot to keep in touch. They’ve likely even forgotten how long they’ve been traveling. I’m sure they’ll just show up one day."

That’s Pierre’s take on it.

Since they were strong enough to travel as a couple, I hope they’re safe.

Pierre is speaking now.

He’s explaining the general plans for the future.

Among the students are the four former slave girls, now maid apprentices, brought by Noella: Tina, Nina, Lou, and Kuu.

When I first met them, they were so small and thin that they looked about six years old, but they were actually older than Yuu and Ai—eight at the time.

They’re nine now.

Since they’ve been eating properly, they’re much healthier.

At first, all of them except Kuu were timid and quiet, but now they smile brightly.

They couldn’t wait to attend school.

Tina has her hair tied on the right side with a red ribbon.

Nina ties hers on the left side with a blue ribbon.

Lou, from the dog tribe, has long hair that's a blonde-brown mix.

Kuu, from the cat tribe, has short dark brown hair.

When they saw me in the VIP seats, they smiled and waved, and I waved back.

Tina and Nina are twins, and not only do they look similar, but their actions are alike too.

There are small differences, like their favorite colors or foods, but as twins, they’re completely in sync.

Even without speaking much, they know what the other is going to do, working together swiftly.
