2.2. If You Have Talent For Unexpected Things, It's A Story That Will Surprise You

"Congratulations, Craft."

"Thank you."

"Craft, you're amazing! Being an alchemist alone is impressive, but being in the upper class!"

"Huh?"

Suddenly interrupting the conversation was a cute girl with orange hair.

Um, who are you?

"Oh, perfect timing. Let me introduce you. This is Leafan Haman, another guild member heading to the pioneering village."

"Nice to meet you, Craft-kun!"

"Uh, yeah. Nice to meet you too."

The flat-bodied girl, with lively big eyes slightly slanted, had shining orange hair that turned into long twin tails, tied up like buns. Was it called a chignon?

But why is a child like this going to the pioneering village? Also, why the use of 'kun'?

"It's reassuring to have 2 alchemists together!"

"Well, I'm still a beginner."

"As the guild leader, I'd like to know more about your abilities, but the departure to the pioneering village is tomorrow, actually."

"Huh?"

Was this such a sudden decision?

"Well, I consulted with the adventurer's guild about personnel quite a while ago. However, it seems there were no suitable candidates."

"That makes sense."

Being able to stay long-term in the pioneering village and switching from the adventurer's guild to the production guild wasn't something anyone would readily agree to.

"Well, it was just a long shot on my part. I'm just glad you came, but..."

The guild leader's words trail off, and his expression becomes somewhat complicated.

"It's a bit wasteful to send such a talented alchemist to the pioneering village. Maybe it's better to stay here..."

"Oh! No way! Craft-kun, you can't go, right!?"

Leafan clings tightly.

Huh?! Hey!?

For a flat person, she's surprisingly soft! And also, why the use of 'kun' again?

"But... it's just that..."

"No way! Nobody else is willing to go to the frontier! You came all the way here for us, right!?"

"Ugh..."

"Hey, come on..."

"Well, it's fine. I appreciate your concern, but this little one has some dwarf blood, and despite the size, she's actually quite old—"

"Guild leader?"

"Whoa!? Stop with the hammer! Put it down!"

"Shall I make that empty head into a little puchi?"

"Although you say it so cutely, you're clearly planning to turn me into tomato puree, right!?"

"It doesn't seem tasty at all."

"This loli-ba—"

"Did you say something?"

"Sorry."

The guild leader is weak...

"So, Craft, it's urgent, but can you be ready for the departure tomorrow?"

"I'm originally a nimble adventurer, so it should be fine. I can handle checking out of the room and preparing everything by tomorrow."

With preparations for the room and the transition to the production guild already arranged, everything should be finished by night.

"That's a relief. Is it okay like this? Loli-ba—"

"What do you want?"

"Is this acceptable, Leafan-sama?"

"Yes. You did well."

"Leafan-san, you should let go soon."

"Oh, sorry, Craft-kun."

"Well, it's fine, but it's a bit unsettling."

"I wouldn't want to be embraced by a loli-baba. In more ways than one."

Boom!

The counter was destroyed by a hammer strike, and wooden fragments scattered.

Despite being a huge hammer, I didn't see it at all!?

"The repair costs are on the guild leader."

"Yes, Leafan-sama!"

Honestly, I can't defend the guild leader for what just happened.

But still, with such a small body, how can she swing that hammer around?

"Oh, dwarves can handle hammers, pickaxes, and shovels better than usual when using them."

"In the adventurer's guild, they called it racial adjustment."

"Yeah, that's right. The principle is unknown."

"I've seen adjustments for elves' bows and dwarves' axe skills."

Apart from the special magic and techniques brought by emblems, there are well-known adjustments for each race.

"Well, it's a bit special, but she's one of the most talented in this guild. She'll work as the guild leader in the pioneering village, so if you have any questions, ask Leafan."

"Got it."

"But more importantly, I'm worried about the local supervisor."

"What do you mean?"

"There's a possibility that a direct descendant of the frontier count might become the supervisor."

"A direct descendant?"

In a pioneering village with fewer than a hundred people, having a blood relative of the ruling frontier viscount come is a suspicious story.

"Yeah. Negotiations are ongoing to make him a deputy sheriff since it's difficult for us. However, it seems quite special."

"Can nobles become supervisors of a small pioneering village?"

"It would be quite unusual."

I have a bad feeling about this.

"Just focus on your work. Well, after 10 years, you'll be free to do as you please."

"Well, if possible, I'd like to stay with the production guild and open a small shop."

"Oh, I see. Leafan is small but quite skilled. Train under her."

Upon closer inspection, Leafan had a blacksmith emblem floating on her left hand.

Gnomes and dwarves are truly skilled with hammers, pickaxes, and shovels.

"That's too small!"

"I'm praising you!"

"Well, it's okay. Let's do our best, Craft-kun!"

"Yeah. I'll do my best as if burying my bones."

And so, as my new life was decided, the next day, an event occurred that would greatly influence my life.
