Chapter 132. Michael

“So, you’ve come to me.”

“That’s right.”

The day after borrowing Lucifer's power to converse with Gabriel, I returned to the academy and went to meet Jeremiah. I came alone... but man, this guy’s dorm room is ridiculously tidy.

At Chronos Magic Knights Academy, there’s technically no distinction between nobles and commoners, at least in terms of treatment. But that’s only in relationships—nobles and commoners still live in separate dorms. This was my first time in a noble dorm room… though I’m guessing the tidiness is more about Jeremiah’s personality.

“Still, to think you actually spoke with a Celestial being asleep in a grimoire.”

“Yeah… even I was surprised.”

Honestly, I was half-doubtful about whether it would work, but I didn’t expect such a proper conversation. Maybe it’s because Gabriel is a powerful Celestial? Or can all reasonably strong Celestials do this?

Anyway, if what Lucifer said is true, then unlike Gabriel, Michael is apparently already awake?

“Hmm… I don’t think I’ve heard any voices like that. If I could, I’d like to meet him and have a chat.”

“Oh, I see. Hilalda didn’t seem too bothered about having a roommate in her own body. She even said it might make her stronger.”

“That sounds like her.”

A true battle maniac, through and through.

“So if I could borrow Lucifer’s power, would I be able to pull Michael out of me too?”

“Well, yeah, but… according to Lucifer, Michael is already awake.”

“Hmm… so maybe I can handle it on my own?”

“Probably? But for some reason, Michael isn’t showing up at all today. Maybe she really hates this situation…”

Normally, she’s noisier and talks more, but ever since I decided to meet Jeremiah, she’s gone completely silent. They must not get along.

“Do you and Michael not get along? The exact opposite of my relationship with Theodore, huh.”

“Nope. And don’t talk like you and I are best friends or something.”

Why does this guy keep treating me like I’m his close buddy? I don’t get it. He’s got plenty of other friends, being a good-looking guy and all. There have to be better options than me.

“You should find better friends.”

“You just don’t get it… I like people who challenge me to grow. You, Theo, are always a source of inspiration for me. You’re irreplaceable.”

“Doesn’t mean much when it’s coming from a guy.”

“Should I have been born a girl, then?”

Don’t say creepy stuff like that!

Sigh… Talking to this guy is exhausting, yet somehow fun. Maybe because we’re the same age? It just feels like… this is what being a student is all about.

“I’ve been trying different things while chatting with you, but he’s still not responding.”

“Should we try sending him magic directly, like we did with Hilalda?”

“Let’s do that.”

They say humans are creatures who can’t resist success, and that might be true. Riding the wave of past success, I placed a hand on Jeremiah’s shoulder and sent the magic waves Lucifer taught me.

The moment I tried to recreate Lucifer’s magic, an overwhelming presence formed behind Jeremiah, forcing me to pull back. The aura was… majestic, like a grand courtroom.

“I had intended to avoid directly interfering in human affairs... but so be it.”

“...Michael?”

“Who else could it be?”

“Indeed. I am Michael.”

A tall, elegant man clad in a robe adorned with scales. Behind him stretched three pairs of radiant wings, and his gentle, verdant green eyes sized me up.

“You can materialize?”

“Lucifer can, too, can’t she? Well… though in her case, she hasn’t fused her soul with her host.”

“...The Lucifer inside me isn’t saying anything right now.”

“She and I… do not get along. Every time we met, we’d argue, and she’d hit me more times than I can count. ‘It’s annoying that you’re handsome’, she’d say.”

Yeah… I kind of get it.

Jeremiah has the “popular with women” kind of good looks, which makes you jealous enough to curse him. But Michael? He’s like a work of art—so beautiful it’s awe-inspiring. The kind of beauty that makes you think, “God must’ve sculpted this.”

Michael’s verdant hair swayed as he stood before me.

“I’ve been watching everything from inside Jeremiah… and you, Theodore Anthem, are a curious human. I can see why Lucifer likes you.”

Those eyes of his—they’ve noticed the duality in my soul. Does this mean all powerful Celestials can see it? Or are Lucifer and Michael special?

“I can guess why you and Jeremiah called me out. It’s about our mistake… Cladius, isn’t it?”

“Mistake? That’s putting it mildly.”

“It’s the truth. We failed to finish him off, and now the consequences plague later generations. If only we hadn’t ignored Sandalphon’s warning back then…”

Sandalphon’s… warning?

“Before Azazel and the others turned against us, Sandalphon warned us. He said, ‘If things continue as they are, our kind will fall apart, the serpent will be unleashed, and it will never be defeated’. And it came true. Declaring Azazel and the others as fallen, we foolishly fought amongst ourselves, spilling our own blood.”

A civil war, huh? Humans have done it plenty of times, but on a Celestial scale? That must’ve been catastrophic.

“In hindsight, Sandalphon was right. We lost the strength to properly fight Cladius and burdened future humans with the fallout.”

“But wasn’t Cladius created by humans in the first place? Isn’t it their problem?”

“Wasn’t it we Celestials and demons who drove them to it?”

The blame just keeps going in circles. There’s no end to this.
