Chapter 130. Gabriel

We head to a secluded place where I can see Hilalda’s [Gabriel] again. That said, there’s nothing I can do… I really have to rely on Lucifer for this.

“Hmm… It seems like its consciousness remains, but it doesn’t look like it can manifest itself outwardly like I can.”

“Why can you even appear so easily from just a soul state in the first place…? That’s not normal.”

“Fool. Do not compare me to some lowly Celestials… Restructuring my body with magic is a simple feat for me, but ordinary Celestials cannot do such a thing.”

Lucifer, who’s observing Hilalda as she projects [Gabriel], responds to my question without dropping her condescending tone.

Whatever the case, it’s true that this girl is different from the other Celestials. I thought it was possible for any Celestials with enough power to reconstruct their bodies and appear like she does… but it seems that’s only within Lucifer’s abilities. In the first place, it’s weird that she’s living as a Celestials at all, considering the others are fusing with humans to survive.

“…Those wings. Theo was just using them earlier.”

“Hmm? Ah… Those wings only borrow my power.”

“Celestials… I haven’t heard anything detailed about this, though?”

Ugh… Explaining this has been such a hassle that I only told Princess Elissa and Jeremiah about it. Besides, after visiting the Simba Dynasty Ruins, there was so much we found out that it became even more of a chore to explain.

Anyway, for now, it’s about [Gabriel], one of the Seven Great Celestials.

“…Tch, so that’s how it is.”

Lucifer touches Gabriel in silence for a while, then suddenly clicks her tongue and irritably retreats back into my body.

[Gabriel’s consciousness seems intact, but the issue is that humans are far too different from Celestials for voices to be transmitted. While Celestials form their bodies from magic, humans have solid, physical bodies—that’s the cause… I’m almost tempted to ask what you lot have been doing for these past few millennia.]

“Huh? So, it’s impossible for a Celestials to talk to the owner of their soul?”

[There is a way. Forcefully adapting to the human body will do it… Of course, if that’s done, the Celestials might never regain their original body, but since most Celestials can’t reconstruct their bodies anyway, it’s hardly an issue.]

That sounds like a huge issue.

To summarize: Celestials merge their souls with humans, allowing them to manifest when needed. However, that same process prevents them from communicating with humans?

[Theodore, send your magic into Gabriel as I instruct.]

“Is that even possible?”

[Just do it.]

Fine, fine.

I move closer to Hilalda and place a hand on her shoulder.

[This wavelength of magic… Imitate it and send it through.]

“…Like this?”

[Make it a little stronger.]

Lucifer’s creating magic inside me on her own… but because of that, I can tell exactly what kind of magic she wants me to produce, so I recreate it and channel it into Hilalda through my palm. It’s kind of like the magic I used to pull out Grimoires.

[…Stronger still.]

“Hm… It feels… warm?”

As I increase the magic flow as instructed, Hilalda seems to feel the warmth. Immediately after, I’m thrown backward, as if pushed away from her body.

It happened so suddenly I couldn’t brace myself, so I rolled across the grass. But when I quickly sat up and looked back at Hilalda, she was standing there with a surprised expression.

[This sensation… Lucifer, is it? Your magic flow is as rude and inconsiderate as ever. Did I not tell you never to appear before me again?]

Hilalda’s mouth is moving, but there’s no sound coming from her vocal cords. Hilalda herself seems confused by this, touching her throat while blinking repeatedly.

The voice I hear reminds me of flowing water—beautiful and clear. Yet the words carried by that voice feel like the roaring anger of a raging river.

[Hah… Did you really think I’d listen to anything you say? A mere Great Celestials acting so high and mighty… That’s disrespectful to the leader of the First Rank Celestials.]

[Hah? Ever since you were captured and imprisoned by Metatron, Michael has taken over as the leader of the First Rank Celestials. You’re just a prisoner now. A prisoner shouldn’t be talking back to the First Rank Celestials like me.]

Whoa, hold on… The one speaking is definitely Gabriel, whose soul was resting inside Hilalda, but she really hates her. To be told never to appear again… what exactly did Lucifer do to deserve that?

[Besides, you used to be so arrogant, bragging about being the strongest, and now you’ve merged your soul with a human just like us? Maybe it’s time you stopped with the grandstanding.]

“Who said I was the same as you lot? I chose to stay with this man because I find him amusing. Don’t compare me to weaklings like you who couldn’t survive without merging your souls.”

“Hey, didn’t I tell you not to come out on your own? Also, your inability to take a little teasing is ridiculous.”

Can you stop popping out of my body the moment someone provokes you? You treat my body like a revolving door… I’m going to put up a re-entry ban.

[…You reconstructed your own body? That shouldn’t be possible.]

“It’s possible, as you can see. How pathetic, Gabriel… While I stand here in my own body, you remain just a soul.”

“Alright, alright. You talk too much. Go back inside for a bit.”

“What?! Is this how you treat your contractor!?”

Your stories are always long. And if I leave you to talk with someone from your “home”, you’re just going to get even more riled up and go on for hours. I’m not letting you handle this.

“So… Gabriel-san, is that right?”

[…Lucifer’s contractor, what do you want from me?]

Just being called “Lucifer’s contractor” feels like I’m starting with a massive negative impression. The debuff is too harsh.

“I have a lot of questions, and I apologize for waking you up forcefully… but would you mind talking with me for a bit?”

[For someone contracted to Lucifer, you seem somewhat reasonable. Very well… Regardless, if you hadn’t pulled me out like this, we wouldn’t be able to converse at all.]

Oh… huh? As long as I speak normally, she seems to respond just fine. I expected something along the lines of “a mere human speaking to me is insolent”, but this makes things easier. Thank goodness for that.
