Test
30. Joint Training 3
A blue orb of light floats above my head.
Looking around, I see the same thing above all my allies.
In fact, the enemy troops also have the exact same orbs.
A special protective barrier covers this battlefield, preventing any damage taken here from directly harming the body.
Instead, the "damage value" is calculated, and if it reaches a certain point, that person is treated as "dead."
In such cases, the orb above their head changes from blue to red—that's how it works.
Basically, if you deal enough damage equivalent to "death," the orb turns red.
In the end, the side with more "blue"—meaning more "survivors"—wins.
—As I go over the rules of the joint exercise in my head...
Whoosh!
A burst of flame flies toward us from the enemy mages.
"[Shield]."
I activate my defensive skill.
Originally, this was Mirage’s skill, but thanks to my [Necromancer] abilities, I can use it too.
Moe’s [Tri-Wall] is already covering the entire area where our allies are, blocking all incoming projectiles, but there’s no guarantee something won’t slip through.
Also, the enemy hero might use ranged attacks, just in case.
Layering my [Shield] over the [Tri-Wall] provides extra security.
"There they are—"
The distance to the enemy is now less than 100 meters.
Knights are lined up ahead, and at the very front stands a male student.
With light brown hair and a laid-back demeanor, it’s Kaneko Yuji.
Everyone just calls him "Yuji."
Yuji strikes a pose, pointing his right index finger toward me.
"Don’t go charging in alone, Shigure."
Yuji sneers.
Golden light gathers at his fingertip—
"[Thunderbolt]!"
Zap! Zap! Zap!
Lightning streaks toward me and the knights.
It’s a wide-area lightning strike—Yuji’s signature hero skill.
"Ugh!"
"Agh!"
The knights around me are struck by the lightning and collapse one after another.
Beep, beep.
The orbs floating above them turn red and begin blinking.
That’s the sign of "death."
I...
"[Fire Buster]!"
Whoosh!
Swirling flames consume and neutralize the lightning strike.
"What...!?"
Yuji is shocked.
Offensive skills cancel each other out like this.
I only learned this recently by summoning a Red Mage and running some tests.
"[Flying Sword]!"
I launch my follow-up attack.
Countless magical swords materialize in the air and shoot toward the enemy lines.
"Agh, no!"
Caught right after using his skill, Yuji has no way to defend himself and is sliced up.
Of course, with the barrier covering the field, the damage is practically zero.
Beep, beep.
The orbs above Yuji and the surrounding knights turn red and start blinking.
"No way... I lost this easily... to Shigure...!?"
"So... strong—"
Yuji and the knights stare in disbelief.
Alright, I’ve got this.
I can feel it.
Even without relying on Mirage and the others, I have enough offensive power to fight on my own—.
