Dungeon Refrigerator 272

Dungeon Stampede 2.0 Fusion

The three JSDF officers stepped outside the building.

One officer left the scene to handle the arrangement for transporting the parasitic monster, the Jinmensou, to a research facility and to report the situation to his superiors.

At that moment, a colleague, having heard rumors of trouble, called out to them.

“Sounds like things got serious. Is it all over now?”

“Yeah, everything’s done. But man, it was… something to see.”

“Huh? What do you mean? Hey, don’t hold back—spill the details!”

Caught up in the excitement of what they had just witnessed, the two officers became absorbed in conversation with their curious colleague.

They had no intention of taking their eyes off the sealed polybucket containing the Jinmensou. Yet, engrossed in the conversation, they grew less attentive to their surroundings.

From behind the shadow of a car, a figure quietly approached.

(That guy... Always showing off in front of my Tsunami...!)

The man sneaking closer from behind the car was a junior colleague harboring feelings for Tsunami.

(Tch, I won’t let him hog all the glory! I’ve been into the dungeon, too. And since he didn’t kill the monster himself, it must’ve been too much for him anyway. Ha! Even with his fancy skills, that’s the best he can do. I’ll prove I’m better than him!)

With that, the man leaped out from behind the car and broke the seal on the polybucket, opening the lid.

[Slosh, splat!]

“Gyaaahhh!!”

The Jinmensou lunged straight at his face the moment the lid was removed.

Startled, the man dropped the chunk of concrete he had been holding as a weapon.

“Hey! What the hell are you doing?!”

“Gyaaahhh!!”

By the time the officers noticed something was wrong, the man was already writhing on the ground, the Jinmensou clinging to his face.

The officers rushed to restrain him, closing in from three directions. But as the man let out a bizarre groan, he suddenly leaped with incredible force and dashed into the building.

“Balar-balar-balar... Grrrryaaahhh!!”

“Oh no!”

“We’ve got to catch him, now!”

I’d like to chat with Tsunami a bit longer, but if I stay too long, I might get caught up in some other mess. I just got bombarded with questions by Dr. Tobari earlier, so it’s probably best if I leave soon.

Tsunami offered to walk me to the entrance, and as we strolled together, more screams and commotion erupted from inside the building.

And it was heading straight for us.

“Tsunami-san, stay behind me.”

“Y-Yes.”

With Tsunami-san safely behind me, I raised my guard to the maximum. Suddenly, someone burst from the crowd.

“Balar-balar... Dieee!! Tsunami is MY woman! Grrrryaaahhh!!”

(Huh? What the hell is that guy!? Is that a Jinmensou on his face?!)

[Thud!]

"Hup!!"

[[Wham!]]

“Pygyaaah!?”

Just as the crazed, Jinmensou-covered man lunged toward us, two JSDF officers sprinted from behind and tackled him midair, slamming him to the ground with a double-flying tackle.

“Hold still!”

[Crunch! Crack!]

“Damn! He’s still moving even with broken bones!?”

“Balar-balar-balar!!”

Despite being pinned, the Jinmensou man continued thrashing, his twisted arm bending unnaturally from the force of the struggle.

Even so, his uncovered eye—gleaming with hostility—locked onto me.

“What the hell is with this guy!? What happened to him!?”

Hearing the commotion, more JSDF personnel and Dr. Tobari rushed over.

“Sorry! He broke the Jinmensou’s seal while we weren’t looking!”

“What?! That’s... disastrous.”

“Grrrr... Grrrryaaahhh!!”

"......"

Even pinned down, the man thrashed violently, leaving everyone around him speechless.

Clearly, this was no longer a normal human—his grotesque appearance, worsened by the Jinmensou, made him seem anything but human.

“You there, can you do anything about this?”

“I tried reading his energy flow, but... it’s gone. There’s no trace of human life left in him.”

“What?! So, he’s... turned into a monster?”

“I can’t say for sure. But in his current hostile state, it’s unlikely any skill will work on him.”

“A fusion... creature.”

""""......!!""""

The officer’s words sent a ripple of fear through the group.
