Dungeon Stampede 2.0 Agony
Shrieks echoed, the hall in chaos, people fleeing in panic.
But the floor was so crowded that everyone was crashing into each other, pushing and shoving, creating a crush where no one could escape, and people were trampled where they stood.
“Aaah! Aghhh…!!”
Amidst the chaos, the patient in question suddenly started flailing her left arm, desperately grabbing at the uniform of the soldier trying to assist her, tearing at it with such force that her nails ripped, blood seeping out.
(Is she unable to control her arm?)
When I used aura vision, I saw that something other than her own energy was flowing into her left arm.
(And that monster…)
“Bwahaha! Gwee! Gwee! Gwee…!!”
Though the woman was suffering, the creature seemed weirdly pleased. Could it be that it’s controlling her arm?
“Is that… could it be a Jinmensou?”
“What, you know about it, Egetsu-san!?”
Yes, Jinmensou.
In manga and anime featuring monsters and spirits, it’s one of those creatures that always shows up at least once. Once it attaches to someone, it’s almost impossible to remove, gradually exhausting the host physically and mentally until it kills them.
In most stories, no matter what you do, you can’t solve it, and the person ends up dying in the end. A truly troublesome foe...
“Ah, well, I don’t know much. But if that’s really Jinmensou, even if we cut it off, it’ll just grow back.”
“What’s this!? Did you say Jinmensou just now!?”
As Tsunami and I were talking, a silver-haired doctor who had stripped the patient’s top approached us.
Whoa, this old guy has intense, bulging eyes. Looks like the patient’s been calmed down with a sedative or something.
“So, even Dr. Tobari knows about Jinmensou!?”
“No, I don’t. But hearing you say Jinmensou jogged my memory… a story I once heard during med school.”
“Then you know how to cure this patient, don’t you?”
“No... I don’t. The story I heard was just a ghost story told over drinks. Never thought I’d actually encounter the real thing like this…”
The old doctor glanced over his shoulder at the sleeping patient.
Nearby, the soldier who brought her in was standing by, ready in case something happened. But for now, the medication seemed to have worked, and even the Jinmensou was drooling in its sleep.
“Bwoo~... fshurrr... bwoo~... fshurrr…”
Hmm… how strange. Even while asleep, it’s snoring obnoxiously loud. What a nuisance. The poor woman must be exhausted from being possessed by this thing.
“Doctor... please, save my wife… Save her…”
A man in a polo shirt, pale and staggering, approached, bowing deeply to the old doctor, over and over. He looked utterly drained, not knowing what else to do.
“Of course, I want to save her... but this is a tough opponent. This is my first time seeing something like this. I’ve heard stories, but how true they are…”
“Please, I’m begging you…!”
The man, who seemed to be the patient’s husband, collapsed to his knees, bowing lower and lower as he pleaded, his face filled with despair.
The old doctor, grim-faced, fell silent.
What a painful scene. I feel so sorry for him. If Ru, Sekirai, or Nina ever ended up like that, it’d break me too.
“Bwoo~... fshurrr... bwoo~... fshurrr... bwoo… fshuuu…”
(Damn it… that thing. You’re the problem here, snoring away so happily!)
If it were just a monster, I’d have no problem beating it down.
But if I attack while it’s attached to her, the core of the creature might go berserk and kill her first. What a terribly tricky foe.
Damn it… what am I supposed to do at a time like this…?
(Poowoo… Naruto, believe in the salt…)
(Huh!? This voice… Could it be… the tiny god of salt!?)
Salt... but what could I do with salt...? Wait, maybe... if I try this method…
“I think I might be able to do something.”
“What did you say!?”
“Ehh!?”
I don’t know if it’ll work. But if I try this... maybe…
