Chapter 354. After The Battle (2)

Kazune came to me with a slightly sulky expression and said, "Daichi-kun, hug me."

Sitting down, I embraced Kazune as she hugged me from the front.

She relaxed into my arms, so I gently stroked her black hair.

Meanwhile, Yuzuki, still grappling with Griff, grumbled "Damn it, Kazane-san's got a head start again.", biting Griff's wing in frustration.

Griff tried to escape, flapping desperately, but it seemed Yuzuki had won this round; there was no escape.

Watching us with a wry smile, Adela said...

"If unexpected situations like this happen often, we won't be able to take on escort requests around this time of year, even with a raid team. What should we do?"

"Come to think of it, I've heard rumors about irregular monster appearances over the past month or two. But I never expected to run into an Owlbear Carnival like this.", Reguld said as he hesitated to put his arm around Adela's shoulder.

Noticing his hesitation, Adela forcefully grabbed his arm and made him put it around her shoulder.

Despite his tough exterior, Reguld might actually be a bit shy.

"If we can't predict the threat level, it'll be bad for business as adventurers. So, what do you think, Reguld? Ready to retire?"

"Even if I wanted to, I don't know how else to make a living."

"Yeah, that's true. It's a problem, but I guess we have no choice but to keep going."

Leaning against Reguld's shoulder with her head resting on him, Adela looked rather pleased, despite her words.

I couldn't help but think how cute Reguld looked with his cheeks blushing, and I noticed some adventurers eating at another table, watching us with envious eyes.

One even gnawed on dried meat as if biting into a handkerchief.

And so, with some casual conversation over a meal, that night passed peacefully.

No major events occurred, and we reached the next morning.

We woke up, had a simple breakfast, and set out.

The journey that day was calm, unlike the previous day.

It felt as though the sixteen Owlbears we encountered had cleared out the area.

We walked without incident until evening and arrived in the city of Lahti.

We passed through the city gates with the carriage and entered the city.

Lahti's streets didn't differ much from those of the previous city, Relutuk.

At dusk, we walked along the main street lined with medieval Western European-style buildings, following Marcus-san's carriage.

We eventually arrived at the Adventurers' Guild, where we chose to disband, partly to report the abnormal Owlbear outbreak.

After reporting to the guild, Marcus-san gave us a large gold coin worth 1,050 gold coins, seven times the originally planned reward.

I was somewhat surprised he paid us in full without returning to his word.

Marcus-san said, "This leaves me with no gold coins, but I saved my life and cargo. I can earn more anytime.", in a very wild manner.

And with that, we completed one more mission.

With the special mission's 80,000 points added, it totals 150,000 points. Sweet.

Well, those 70,000 are due to past efforts.

So, having successfully completed both the quest and the mission, we parted ways with our client Marcus-san and the fellow adventurers from Wild Fang and Crimson Axe, returning to our usual group of three and one.

We left the Adventurers' Guild to find lodging and dinner for the night.

Before leaving the guild, I happened to spot an interesting request on the quest board.

Quest Details: The young lady of the house desires to eat the legendary omelet made from a Roc's egg.

Upon investigation, it appears that defeating the Roc, which appears on the monstrous Bird Mountain Bird in the northwest,

always results in a treasure chest containing an egg.

The Roc is said to be an extremely powerful monster, but we request that you defeat it and bring back the egg.

Reward: 250 gold coins

An S-rank quest, huh?

I thought, remembering there was also a mission to hunt a Roc.

The reward was 50,000 experience points, if I recall correctly.

Despite most of the other quest requests having been taken, this one remained on the almost empty board.

It seemed like a pretty good deal, but—

"Senpai, stop looking at the quest board, and let's get a place to stay and relax.

I don't want to work overtime like a self-imposed black company~."

"I agree with Hotaru-chan. I'm tired and hungry. Can we leave the quests for tomorrow?"

"Oh, right. Let's do that."

Pulled along by the two of them, I left the Adventurers' Guild.

Well, I was tired and hungry too, and I didn’t want to work myself to exhaustion like a black company employee.

We'll come back tomorrow morning and see if it's still there.
