Chapter 37.2. The Fenrir Family
I see.
Fenrir, you're pretty influenced by humans.
“Hati strayed away because of that influence. She probably wanted to go after hearing about my trips to the city. But since she can't transform into human form yet, I never took her with me. She couldn’t hold back anymore and dashed off.”
Such a childish reason.
But what incredible determination.
As expected of the child of a divine beast.
“So, who are the others?”
“Ah, this is my husband. And these are Hati’s brothers and sisters.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Hati’s father.”
“I’m the eldest son. Pleased to meet you.”
“I’m the second son. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m the eldest daughter. Nice to meet you~”
“I’m the youngest daughter. Nice to meet you~”
Starting from Hati’s father, they each introduced themselves.
But while the men speak politely, the women seem kind of casual.
“I’m Jun Elmbarn, the eldest son of Aslad Elmbarn, the Demon Lord who rules this country.”
“Oh, so that’s who you are. You’re a demon prince then.”
“Huh? You didn’t know?”
“Well... no, wait. I think Aslad mentioned something about a son. So, you're the demon prince.”
Is that what he said?
At that time, there was so much going on, that I don’t think I introduced myself properly.
“By the way, do you all not have names?”
“We don’t. We can communicate without names. Generally speaking, neither magical beasts nor divine beasts have names. It’s only those like Hati, who interact with humans, that have names.”
I see.
But interacting like this, not having a name seems inconvenient.
Still, they might get mad if I tried to give them names.
“So, you’ve come to see Hati today, is that right?”
I decided to ask about the conversation they were having at the gate.
“Yes, that’s right. But after we talked it over, we realized we couldn’t be at ease leaving our little daughter where we can’t see her. It’s not that we don’t trust you. Hati’s grown attached to you, so we’re not worried about that.”
“Yes, that’s perfectly understandable for a parent.”
“So, we decided the whole family should move here.”
“Huh, I see—wait, what?!”
“We’ll be in your care along with Hati.”
No, no, no... what are you even saying?
“Hold on, you can’t just spring that on us!”
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll provide for ourselves. Besides, if you ever run into trouble, we’re happy to help. Having the power of the Fenrir family is no small thing. You should consider yourself honored.”
Well... that is certainly reassuring, but...
“Yeah, it would be pretty confusing if the whole Fenrir family suddenly moved into the castle.”
Hati’s father chimed in...
“Right... But what happened to the place you were living?”
“We lived in a cave up on a mountain. We sealed off the entrance before we came, and we didn’t leave anything important behind. We came here with just the essentials. We weren’t particularly attached to that place.”
“Yes, and our daughters were saying it wasn’t fair for only Hati to live in the city. We were worried about Hati too, so we all decided to move here. So, we’ll be in your care.”
“Well... okay...”
“Besides, you can’t train Hati, can you? She can’t even take human form yet. She needs someone to teach her how to use the powers of Fenrir. It wouldn’t be a bad deal to have our power available to you, would it?”
That... might be true.
“I understand. Noella, could you explain the situation to my father and get his permission?”
“As you wish, Jun-sama.”
“Thanks. Oh, and here, take this as a token of our gratitude. You can sell it for money or do whatever you want with it.”
From her chest, she pulled out several large jewels.
Diamonds and sapphires.
There are a bunch of them.
""Wow, they’re beautiful!""
Ai and Yuu’s eyes literally sparkled at the sight of them.
Even Lily’s eyes are glittering.
“These are things we don’t need. Long ago, I saved a city from magical beasts on a whim. These were among the tributes they gave me. I’ve still got plenty, so feel free to take them.”
“Please, make yourselves at home.”
“Thank you. We’ll be in your care.”
Before Father could give his permission, Ai and Yuu had already given theirs.
I guess girls really do love jewelry...
But now the divine beast Fenrir’s family is going to live in the castle.
This castle is pretty much indestructible now.
Not that we’re at war or anything, so I doubt we’ll be attacked.
