Chapter 62. The Massacre Knight

Even though I've taken care of the assassin, the fight between the Earth Dragon and Nina continues. Nina isn't trying to destroy buildings on purpose, but the Earth Dragon attacks without concern. When I say "attacks," I don't mean breathing fire or using magic; it's just attacking through sheer mass and movement. However, just the act of the enormous and lengthy Earth Dragon moving through the town is enough to easily destroy the surrounding buildings.

Nina told me not to interfere, but if it looks impossible, I might have to take it down myself. No, since this commotion is happening in the royal capital, the Magic Knights will come soon. This isn't an area where noble mansions are located, so they won't arrive incredibly fast, but a dragon appearing in the royal capital is a big deal, so they'll probably be here in a few minutes.

"I didn't expect to face a dragon here! Your life is mine to take!"

As I approached to observe, I heard Nina's extremely high-spirited voice. I'll just retrieve Princess Elissa and move away a bit... Chasing the assassin is one thing, but leaving her near a destructive force like an Earth Dragon and a woman fighting it with a crazed smile is too much.

"Sorry for the wait. Let's go."

"You're late!"

"Don't complain."

I picked up Princess Elissa in my arms again, carrying her away from the collapsing building caused by the Earth Dragon's charge.

"Why are you carrying me like this?"

"Because you're slow, Princess."

"I'm not slow. You guys are just too fast."

That's not true.

"What about the Earth Dragon? If this continues, who knows how much damage it will cause to the people of the royal capital... We have to fight too!"

"Calm down, Princess Elissa. With this much destruction, the Magic Knights will definitely come. Even if Nina can't defeat it, the Magic Knights will. At this scale, the captain of the Magic Knights will undoubtedly take action."

I learned during extracurricular training that there are very few humans who can deal with dragons. Well... maybe a group of several dozen could take down a red dragon, but an Earth Dragon, with its rocky shell instead of scales, would be tough. In terms of hardness, the scales of a red dragon might not even compare.

"Which is the closest Magic Knights' station?"

"... The Fifth Division."

"Oh..."

To confirm my and Princess Elissa's thoughts, something like a cannonball flew from far away, blowing the Earth Dragon and surrounding buildings sideways.

"Hey!"

I knocked away the flying debris from the explosion to prevent it from hitting Princess Elissa. Why do I have to do this?

"Why are they firing cannons in the middle of the city? And that power was no joke."

"No, that wasn't a cannon... It was probably the Fifth Division's Charge Captain 'Alina'."

Charge Captain? Does the Magic Knights have such a dangerous division... I remembered the Fifth Division was a rough and wild group. So they might have such a reckless unit.

"Charge Captain, huh."

"... You don't know? Alina of the Fifth Division charges into any place, destroying everything around while killing all enemies... That's why she's called the 'Massacre Knight.'"

"Massacre Knight! I think I've heard that before!"

I've heard of a female Magic Knight with a ridiculously dangerous name!

"I finally get to release my frustrations from suppressing those worthless minor nobles during an attack on the royal capital!"

"This is my prey! Don't interfere!"

"Huh!? You think a brat like you can take down an Earth Dragon! Go home and tremble in fear!"

"What did you say!?"

Um... is that okay? When I looked at Princess Elissa, she awkwardly averted her gaze. Is it true that someone like that holds such a position as a Magic Knight? Even the bandits on the outskirts of the royal capital might have more sanity than her. And Nina, trying to compete with her, is also strange.

"I knew about her from information, but it's my first time seeing her in person. So..."

"Ah... Yeah."

What can I say... this is tough.

"Get out of my way, brat! [Abaddon]!"

I could only catch a glimpse from a distance, but it looked like the Massacre Knight drew a giant sword from thin air. So that's her Grimoire, huh.

The massive sword is obviously larger than her height. Ivy also uses a similar greatsword, but she mainly fights using the shadows of her Grimoire, so I've rarely seen her swinging it around. She usually keeps it hidden in the shadows. However, the Massacre Knight's greatsword is the Grimoire itself, so unlike Ivy, she might swing it around.

I was underestimating the Magic Knights a bit.

"Take this!"

She easily swung the enormous greatsword with one hand, striking the charging Earth Dragon's horn.

"Hah! You talk big, but you didn't even cut it! Leave it to me!"

"If you don't want to die, stay back, brat!"

Although it seemed like the attack had no effect, the Earth Dragon's horn exploded the moment it tried to charge at the Massacre Knight again.

"What was that?"

Princess Elissa didn't know either, of course. Well... it's not normal for everyone to know about someone's Grimoire. Especially for someone like the Massacre Knight, who probably kills every enemy she encounters.

When she swung the greatsword again and struck the Earth Dragon's jaw, its jaw exploded.

"The places she cuts explode... no, the parts she touches? And she can make them explode whenever she wants?"

A simple but powerful Grimoire... Even from this distance, the blast is strong enough to send shockwaves our way. No matter how hard the Earth Dragon's shell is, repeated explosions like that would be too much to handle. However, the Earth Dragon, driven by something, continues to attack the Massacre Knight and Nina.

"Coming at me! You've got guts!"

"This is my prey!"

Nina forcefully slashed the Earth Dragon's neck with her twin swords, splitting its shell open at the moment it was staggered by the Grimoire's explosion.

Nina probably knows she can't beat the Massacre Knight, so she's taking out her frustration by doing this.

I need to change my perception a bit too. If the Fifth Division's Charge Captain is this powerful... then the captains of the Fifth and First Divisions must be monsters.
