I leveled up 2 levels, Kazane-san and Yuzuki leveled up 3 levels each.
The experience points we gained are comparable to, or even greater than, when we defeated the Kraken.
It really feels like we took down a major boss.
"Thank goodness, we're alive!"
"Senpai, that was so scary!"
Kazane-san ran over to me and jumped on me, and then Yuzuki, who had sprinted over, launched a diving attack.
I couldn't support all three of us and we tumbled onto the grass.
I lay on my back with Kazane-san and Yuzuki clinging to me, both in tears, holding on tightly.
Smelling the grass, I hugged them both with my arms.
Ah, I'm really glad we made it through this time too.
We always say our lives are the most important, but we do quite a bit of reckless things.
If it were just for the experience points, we might not take such risks.
But we take on life-threatening missions because there are other things we want to protect.
What we wanted to protect descended from the sky, riding my familiar.
Kushinosuke, wearing her red and white shrine maiden outfit, jumped down from Griff’s back.
A samurai rushed over to her.
"Princess!"
"Whoa...! Mi-Mikoto...?!"
Mikoto-san hugged Kushinosuke tightly, tears streaming down her face, which made Kushinosuke cry as well.
When Kushinosuke said, "Mikoto, that hurts," Mikoto-san realized and let her go.
Wiping her tears, Kushinosuke spoke firmly to Mikoto-san.
"Mikoto, check on everyone’s safety."
"Ah...yes, of course. My apologies."
After assessing the situation post-battle, the only ones standing and able to move were Kazane-san, Yuzuki, Mikoto-san, Kushinosuke, Griff, and myself.
The samurai who were healing the flanks were all burnt and collapsed.
But when we checked if they were breathing, they were all in a "disabled" state, meaning they weren't dead and were still alive.
I continuously used the area healing spell [Area Earth Heal] until their burns were completely healed.
Their HP should be fully restored now, but it will take a while for them to regain consciousness naturally.
While I handled the healing, Kazane-san started working on the treasure chest.
It might be the first time a treasure chest appeared from a boss enemy.
When I finished healing, Kazane-san came over with a sword in her hand.
The treasure chest had disappeared, so it must be the treasure from inside.
It was a beautiful Japanese-styled sword that looked very powerful.
Although the sword was slightly shorter, somewhere between a sword and a dagger.
"Yuzuki-chan appraised it, and it's called the 'Ame no Murakumo no Tsurugi.' It can be used as a sword, dagger, or katana."
"Wow, so Kazane-san can use it too. How strong is it?"
"It's really strong. Attack power +50, and special effect is magic power +5."
Hearing the performance explanation from Yuzuki, I nodded in admiration.
Kazane-san's weaker dagger "Rune Kris" had an attack power of +25 and magic power of +2, so getting this sword would be a significant power boost.
Well, compared to my "Seagod Wolnis' Spear," it still falls short.
When I muttered this, Yuzuki responded, "Senpai’s spear is too extraordinary," and then turned red and started flapping her hands, saying, "That’s not what I meant!"
What do you mean by that?
Anyway, the problem is whether we can accept this sword.
When we asked Mikoto-san and Kushinosuke, they said they would consult the general back at the castle about the treasure Yamata no Orochi dropped.
It's fair to decide the ownership of the treasure through discussion since we didn't defeat it alone.
Mikoto-san promised to do everything she could to negotiate with the general on our behalf.
Later, using Yuzuki's [Resurrection], we revived half of the fallen samurai and headed home.
The remaining half were carried back by the revived samurai, and they soon woke up and walked on their own.
We returned to Oedo City by dusk.
As soon as Kushinosuke returned to the castle, the general rushed to her and hugged her with tears.
Kushinosuke, initially looking troubled, soon cried and hugged the general back.
Really, everyone’s a crybaby.
I teared up a little too, but that can't be helped.
When the news of Yamata no Orochi's defeat spread, the people in Oedo Castle cheered and applauded.
At the general's command, preparations for a feast began immediately.
Surprisingly, we were promptly allowed to keep the "Ame no Murakumo no Tsurugi."
The promised high rewards were also given as expected.
After that, we were offered baths, and I gladly accepted to clean and warm myself.
I joined the castle's samurai in a large communal bath, where I was praised endlessly for my performance in the Yamata no Orochi battle, making me quite embarrassed.
A shrunken Griff seemed content soaking in a bucket of water.
According to Kazane-san and Yuzuki, things were pretty hectic in the women’s bath too.
Apparently, Mikoto-san, being quite the lady's man, was teasing Kushinosuke in the bath.
She also complimented Kazane-san and Yuzuki on their skin, which made them shake their heads vigorously.
Kushinosuke’s remark, "Mikoto, you're a liar. What do you mean 'I love you because you're a princess'?" left a strong impression.
After the bath, we put on borrowed yukatas and relaxed in our guest room.
Shortly after, we were called to the banquet hall and followed the servant leading us.
