Chapter 24. Let's Build A School 1
Three days after Maria recovered from her illness, Lily came to the castle.
"Good morning! Jun-sama!"
"Good morning, Lily. Is it okay for you to be out already?"
"Yes! My mother is completely well! She's lost some strength from being bedridden for so long, but she'll be able to work at the castle again soon."
"I'm glad to see you're fully recovered too."
"Yes! I'm better now! It's all thanks to you, Jun-sama! Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome. Noella, Ai, and Yuu were also worried, so thank them later too."
"I already thanked Senior Noella when I saw her earlier. But Noella-senpai told me you arranged for the gifts and medicine, and that you trained hard in healing magic for my mother."
"Well... training in healing magic was beneficial for me too, and Ai and Yuu helped a lot. It wasn't just my effort. Don't worry about it."
Without the help of Ai and Yuu, Maria probably wouldn't have made it in time.
It definitely wasn't just my power alone.
"Yes, I'm grateful to Yuu-sama and Ai-sama as well. But I am most grateful to you, Jun-sam! So... I will serve you for life to repay my debt! I will do anything you ask!"
"Haha, that's an exaggeration. But thank you, Lily. I'll ask for your help if I need anything."
"Yes! To fulfill your wishes, Jun-sama, I'm thinking of asking Eliza-sama to train me!"
"Don't do that."
Training under my mother would probably only harm Lily.
That training is anything but normal.
The day after Lily returned, I received a report that many people were crowding at the castle gate.
"Is something wrong?"
"Yes... people heard that you can use high-level healing magic and are demanding to be healed."
"I see. That's troublesome."
Though it wasn't entirely unexpected.
Even though demons are tougher than humans, they still get injured and sick.
And there are few healers in the demon kingdom.
Maria's recovery must have spread the word that I can use healing magic.
"I guess I have no choice but to go. Noella, help me out."
"I'm sorry, Jun-sama. It's because of my mother and Lily..."
"It's not their fault. Don't worry about it."
I said this to Lily and headed to the gate.
There were a lot of people. Hundreds, maybe?
Not everyone was injured or sick; about half seemed to be attendants, but there were still a lot of people.
"First, I want the injured and the sick to separate and gather in groups. You soldiers, help out."
"Yes, sir!"
I asked the soldiers at the gate to divide the people into the injured and the sick.
First, I went to the injured group and used magic.
"Mass Healing All!"
"""Wow!"""
Using the Demon King's crest, I cast high-level healing magic with all my power.
This is a high-level healing spell that heals everyone within its range, even regenerating lost limbs.
"My leg! I can move my leg!"
"I can see, Mom!"
People rejoiced at their restored bodies.
They expressed their gratitude to me with the fervor of worshiping a god.
It felt a bit embarrassing.
"You haven't regained your lost blood or strength yet, so please take it easy and rest for a while."
I told them this and then moved on to the sick people.
This time, I used a wide-area disease-healing spell.
"[Mass Disease Cure]!"
I used the crest again to cast the spell with all my power.
Unlike offensive magic, it's safe to use full power with healing magic, making it good practice for using the crest.
"Thank you! Thank you!"
I managed to heal everyone who had gathered at the gate.
People tried to give me money or food, but I only accepted their gratitude.
And the next day...
"Please! Heal this child with your magic!"
"Save my mother!"
Again, people gathered at the gate.
There seemed to be even more people than the previous day.
"I have no choice but to do it."
I healed everyone with healing magic as I had done the day before.
It seemed that people were coming not just from the capital but from neighboring towns and villages, and the word was spreading quickly.
And the next day, and the day after that...
It became too much, so we decided to discuss and come up with a solution.
As a result, we announced to the citizens that I would visit various towns in Elmbern regularly to use healing magic, and that those who wished to be healed should come to one of those towns on the designated days.
For those who had difficulty traveling, we arranged to send carriages and soldiers to their homes.
Initially, traveling to each town with the escorting knights in carriages took a lot of time, but from the second visit onwards, we used teleportation.
Of course, we made sure that the ability to teleport remained a secret.
After living like this for a few months, the number of people seeking healing hadn't decreased.
"We need a more fundamental solution."
"Yes. Even if you heal the injured and sick, new ones will always appear."
"And since we're healing for free, there are complaints from those who used to make a living selling healing and medicine."
"Ah, of course."
Thinking about it, it was inevitable.
"And I can't live my whole life just as a healer. It's nice to be appreciated and thanked, but..."
"Yes, at this rate, you'll spend your entire life as a healer."
"Then, we should train more healers and build hospitals in each town, right?"
"That way, it won't just be a temporary solution but something beneficial for the country in the long run. Let's discuss it with Father."
After consulting with my father, Aslad, we decided to train people with the aptitude for healing magic from among the knights, soldiers, and citizens, and to create a healer training school and build hospitals in each town.
However, Ai then suggested,
"Why don't we go ahead and build a school?"
"A school?"
There are no schools in this world.
There are dojos for teaching swordsmanship and martial arts and places for learning magic, but there are no schools that teach basic subjects like math and literacy.
"Not a full-scale dojo, but a place to teach the basics. Not just magic, but also swordsmanship and spearmanship. For the first three years, students learn everything broadly, and from the fourth year, they specialize in what suits them best. This will improve the overall abilities of the citizens."
"What about the teachers?"
"We'll have to train teachers for healing magic, but we can hire retired knights and dojo owners to teach swordsmanship and martial arts. For literacy and math, we can employ former government officials. The school will be for children aged six to twelve, lasting six years. The state will cover most of the costs to minimize the financial burden on the students."
I see, it's essentially creating an elementary school.
It won't be exactly like an elementary school in Japan, but it's worth building and it's feasible.
Luckily, Elmbarn is a wealthy country, and Ai and I were teachers in our previous lives.
We have some knowledge and experience.
With my father's approval, we decided to build the school.
However, even though I just turned nine recently, I feel like I've been working a lot.
Even with Ai and Yuu around, I feel like I need some sort of healing. Already.
