Skip Magician 44

Chapter 44. Seems Like I Was Born Under Such A Star

The next day, we were forbidden to leave the dorm and told to study in our rooms since there were no classes. Apparently, even though the cult had been eliminated in the capital, the problem itself wasn't resolved. Most likely... they've identified the people behind the cult, and a conflict with that organization has begun.

Thinking it was not my concern, I slipped out of my room again and lazily read some magic books in the old library. I was reading, but... I couldn't concentrate.

"Who's there?"

Unable to focus, I was zoning out in the old library when the door suddenly opened, and someone walked in. Naturally, other than people like me sneaking out, the only ones active in the Chronos Magic Knight Academy are the magic knights. But the person who rushed into the library was a man in what looked like a noble's outfit, covered in blood.

He seemed suspicious, but nothing would start unless I approached him. Besides, I'm not good at suppressing my curiosity. Seeing someone covered in blood in such a situation piqued my interest greatly.

"Ah! Are you a student?"

"And you are?"

"Never mind me... I was attacked by bandits outside. Can you hide me here for a while?"

"By bandits, do you mean the Omnitrus cult?"

"Y-yes, that's right."

I see.

"I heard the Omnitorus cult was destroyed."

"That's... there were remnants! They attacked me!"

"I see. You must have had a hard time getting here, Chancellor Albrecht."

"Not really. With my magic, this much is... huh!?"

Damn it! He dodged my surprise attack.

"What are you doing all of a sudden!?"

"Well, I can't sleep at night if I don't hand over the mastermind behind this whole incident, being a powerless commoner."

"Are you from the Magic Knights!?"

"That sounds like you're confessing to being the mastermind, Chancellor Albrecht. And that movement... it seems the wound from Grand Marshal Morgus is quite painful."

Seeing a noble rolling around on the floor of the old library was amusing, but I should finish this quickly and hand him over to Grand Marshal Morgus before getting involved in more trouble. If what Ivy said is true, the Home Secretary would deal with him quickly.

"You dare insult me knowing I'm Duke Albrecht!?"

"A noble title means nothing to a national traitor. And there's no need for courtesy to a national traitor."

"Damn it! A mere student, getting cocky!"

In a rage, the Chancellor drew a sword adorned with extravagant decorations.

"I thought that sword was just for show with such excessive ornamentation."

"Shut up!"

As he charged, our swords clashed, and both shattered with one blow.

"Hmph!"

"Oops."

It's understandable for my cheap sword to break, but for his gaudy sword to shatter so easily... it really was just for show.

Just as I thought about restraining him with my bare hands, the Chancellor quickly drew a magic circle. As I hesitated, having never seen such a circle before, the sword fragments scattered around him attacked all at once.

"What's this?"

"This is the power of my treasured sword."

With a smug face, the Chancellor gathered the sword fragments back into the hilt, reforming the sword.

"Your sword is broken. This is the end."

"[Yaldabaoth]"

"A grimoire!? A mere student!?"

Of course, I'd pull it out once my sword broke. As our weapons clashed again, my [Yaldabaoth] cut through his sword without shattering.

"Impossible!"

"Can't repair it once cut? It's defective."

As I moved to sever his arm, he flipped a nearby table. I split the table in two, but he had already disappeared.

He did say it wasn't hard to escape here using magic. I thought he might have a grimoire, but his reaction to seeing mine was clearly from someone who didn't possess one. So, can he use teleportation magic? That's absurd.

"Sigh... what should I do..."

Even with the excuse of a fight, cutting the library table in half might have been over the top... but in that situation, I had no choice... maybe I could come up with some excuse.

If I catch the escaped Chancellor, they might let it slide. Yeah... let's do that!

Stepping out of the library, it didn't seem like there was much commotion, so it looked like he really escaped alone.

"Eek!?"

"Huh?"

As I started searching the academy, a scream came from behind the library. That pitiful voice was undoubtedly the Chancellor's.

Rushing around the back of the building, I found the Chancellor, bleeding and groveling, begging for his life, and a man with a sword, looking down at him expressionlessly.

"Chancellor Albrecht, I am disappointed in you. I see no patriotism in you. That's unacceptable... for someone leading the nation, such an attitude won't inspire the people."

The blond man, fervently lecturing the Chancellor on patriotism, must be the Home Secretary.

"Um... it's pointless to preach patriotism to him, isn't it?"

"...Are you a student here?"

"Well, yes."

"Then you are one of this country's people."

"That's right."

What, that's scary.

"Let me ask you, as a citizen, do you think this man is fit to lead the country?"

"He doesn't seem fit. He did betray the country."

"Exactly! This man betrayed the country and its people. He cannot be forgiven."

So, this must be...

"Spare my life, please! Lord Froedil!"

"Of course, Duke Albrecht. Even though you're a traitor, executing a duke outright would cause problems... however, don't expect a decent retirement."

As I thought, he was the Home Secretary Frodil, a man supported by the patriotic people.

"Damn... damn it!"

"Why are you coming at me?"

Shouldn't you be going after the Home Secretary standing right in front of you?

It was easy to restrain the old man who had lost his sword. I dodged his wild punch and kneed him in the stomach before punching his cheek.

"Blah!"

With a disgusting sound, the old man was sent flying. I hit him hard enough that he should be unconscious... I'll leave the rest to the Home Secretary.

Sigh... if he wasn't in such a high position, I'd have torn him apart from the start.

"So, that's Theodore Anthem. A man with no patriotism at all... but he can be useful. For the future of this country... indeed."
