Chapter 41. Ramiel
"May I ask what you plan to do next?"
"I was thinking of getting a grasp on the enemy's positions..."
"I've already dealt with all the ones inside the school building."
I have dealt with... like an assassin.
Still, considering this place was attacked and secured not long ago, eliminating all the enemies inside the school without being noticed is quite an impressive feat. I'm not good at subtle things like avoiding detection, so I really respect that.
"Then, we just need to deal with the ones in the schoolyard."
"How do you plan to do that?"
"Well, that's something to figure out now. From what I can tell, the students are being held hostage in the schoolyard while the magic knights and instructors are restrained somewhere else. There are over 30 enemies in the schoolyard, so charging in recklessly is dangerous... But waiting around isn't going to solve anything either."
"Maybe we could get help from the students held hostage to attack all at once?"
"Could they do it? You and I can handle it, but asking the students to do it might lead to a disaster."
That's true... Ideally, the enemies in the schoolyard would just stay put until Commander Liester arrives, but they're not that stupid.
"Let's observe a bit longer and wait for Liester to arrive."
"Agreed. If the commander returns, that would be a huge help."
"Is there something you need from me?"
Both Jeremiah and I turned around to see gray eyes looking at us.
"Wh-when did you get here?"
"Just now. I can see the situation."
Liester glanced at the corpses at her feet and then looked toward the schoolyard.
"I thought we'd manage if you came, but what do you suggest?"
"I can probably handle around 20 of them, but we wouldn't be able to save Elissa-sama that way. Can I count on you?"
"Handle 20? Really?"
"Yes. My grimoire works well in this situation."
Her grimoire must be related to lightning.
"Theodore."
"Ivy, and Elixira."
"What's the plan? I was hiding in the back of the library."
I didn't think Elixira would do anything in this situation.
"Can you create a distraction?"
"A distraction...?"
"A bright flash of light would work."
"I can manage that."
If we can blind the enemies even for a moment, we could gain an advantage. With Nina and Hilarda in the schoolyard, they should be able to counterattack quickly if given a chance. It's not just first-year students out there.
"Ivy, take care of Princess Elissa. Elixira, use the distraction spell when signaled. Liester, incapacitate as many as you can... Jeremiah and I will handle the rest."
"Simple but effective. Let's go."
"[Raziel]."
Elixira summoned her grimoire and began flipping through its pages.
Raziel's ability... to activate recorded magic circles. Normally, mages create magic circles from memory and channel magic power through them, but Elixira's grimoire seems to eliminate that time. It's an exceptionally powerful, magic-specialized grimoire.
"Elixira!"
"Yes!"
The moment she turned the page, the spell activated, and we sprang into action.
"[Ramiel]."
As Liester charged with us, she whispered her grimoire's name and vanished, surrounded by lightning. As I suspected, but didn't expect her to move as fast as lightning.
A flash of light lit up the schoolyard, and when it faded, the cultists of Omnitorus were blinded. By the time their vision cleared, Liester had already struck three of them with powerful lightning.
"What is happening!?"
"Hey, wait─"
"We're freeing Elissa-sama."
Jeremiah and I ran in the opposite direction of Liester, taking down cultists. Ivy used her grimoire [Sariel] to rip apart the man holding a sword to Princess Elissa.
"Hah!"
"[Gabriel]."
"Got it."
Before the cultists could grasp the situation, we freed Princess Elissa and had already taken down more than half of the enemies. Some students, led by Nina, Hilalda, and Ash, fought back against their captors. The student council president smiled at us.
"That's all of them, right?"
"Probably."
In less than ten seconds after the flash, we wiped out over 30 cultists. The commander is truly strong... She took down 16 of them as she declared. Even the rear guard unit of the 3rd Division, which is often mocked, is this powerful. Liester must be an elite from another division, known as a young genius knight.
"Great teamwork."
"It would have been nice if you helped, President."
"I must protect the students of Chronos Magic Knight Academy. If you handle the enemies, I'll be the shield for the students."
Oh, how noble. I saw her glance over here before Elixira's flash, sensing Liester's grimoire activation.
Just like Ivy, why do people who always smile seem so suspicious? If someone told me the president was the mastermind, I wouldn't be surprised. She's that suspicious.
"The Grand Marshal is coming here. We need to clean up."
"The Grand Marshal? Why?"
"Why? Because the academy was occupied."
Why would the Grand Marshal come here? Isn't he just a high-ranking official overseeing the kingdom's knights and magic knights? That makes him a top suspect.
