Test
Chapter 10. [Raziel]
Wait, isn't it normal not to show your Grimoire to just anyone? That's the vibe I got from Riester-san's words, and honestly, I don't really want to show it to others either. But Elixira, with her hand on her chest and eyes closed, seems like she's about to reveal something serious.
I want to see it. But I'm hesitating if it's really okay. Is she expecting me to feel this way?
"I-It's okay if you don't want to show it forcefully—"
"[Raziel]."
Ignoring my protest, Elixira conjures up a shining book in the air. The created book sways gently from side to side before settling into Elixira's hand with a smug expression.
"What do you think? This is my soul's manifestation, Grimoire [Raziel]."
"...You're really something, aren't you?"
"W-What do you mean!?"
"Normally, you wouldn't show your Grimoire to others, right?"
"Well..."
Well, what's with that? Did she really just show me her Grimoire without thinking? Just to boast that she can use a Grimoire? Is she serious?
"Well, now that we're here, could you at least tell me about its abilities?"
"No!"
"Why not?"
"B-Because showing the Grimoire to others is not a good thing... and, um, I'd rather not have my abilities analyzed too much?"
It's too late for that. Isn't that something to handle before showing it? I already know that Elixira's Grimoire is called Raziel and takes the form of a book. So I could analyze it as much as I wanted. But from the feel of reading this book, Grimoires seems to manifest with quite outrageous abilities, so analysis is just that—analysis.
"But it's beautiful... Raziel, was it? The fact that your Grimoire, the manifestation of your soul, is so beautiful must mean that your soul is beautiful too."
"T-Thanks for the sudden praise... but it's embarrassing."
A Grimoire in the form of a book... undoubtedly, it's a Grimoire that assists with something related to magic. Whether it's non-combat or combat-focused, I don't know. Elixira wouldn't say she can't use magic just because she can't handle weapons. So, it must undoubtedly be a Grimoire that can be applied in combat.
It doesn't seem to be a grimoire of spellbooks. But it's something close to that.
"By the way... Theodore-san, do you have a Grimoire or something?"
"I do. But I've only used it a few times in my life."
"Huh... don't you ever get curious?"
"Do you really get that curious? Well, it might be necessary if you want to challenge the top-ranked folks, but even Princess Elissa is ranked 11th without using a Grimoire, so it's not really necessary, right?"
Let me be clear. If you're not going to become a Magic Knight, having a Grimoire won't be of much use. Even in the profession of adventurers, it's better to become a knight in the service of a local noble who rules over a region rather than engage in dangerous combat activities. Grimoires are something geniuses possess, and they're considered excessive abilities for humans. It might be different if there were a war between demons and humans like hundreds of years ago.
"You seem... quite indifferent."
"Well, yeah. But it's not like I don't care at all. I've just tasted a fragment of a recently completed Grimoire not long ago."
During that exam, Riester-san used a Grimoire to control lightning and crushed the wooden sword I held barehanded. I know that much, but I have no idea what happened next. I have no clue what connection there is between being able to control lightning and crushing a wooden sword barehanded. All I saw at that moment were the lightning flickering in my field of vision for an instant, and Riester-san's hand that suddenly blurred and crushed the wooden sword.
"Well, it's not like it's written in there."
I opened a book that had various things written about Grimoires, but all that was there were the names and abilities of Grimoires used by humans hundreds of years ago. There aren't any books that candidly discuss the trump cards of present-day humans.
"Well, never mind... let's look at books on magic circles."
"I-It seems like you lost interest quickly."
Yeah.
Elixira hastily dispels Raziel and opens a thick tome similar to an encyclopedia, just like me.
This library is quite close to the dormitory. But there are relatively few students who use it. Usually, it's just the librarian, me, and Elixira.
"Why are you researching magic so much?"
"It's fun, isn't it? If you enjoy studying as a student, you remember things, but if you don't enjoy it, you'll never remember no matter how much time passes."
"You seem... quite nostalgic. It's as if you've spent your student days before."
"...I haven't, though."
Actually, saying that you're a human reincarnated from another world won't really get through normally. That being said, having a strong interest in magic is probably because of the knowledge of being from another world. Everyone must have thought at least once about what it would be like to use magic.
"Even someone like you, Elixira, spends all your time holed up in this library reading books."
"It's fine for me... it's the fastest way to gain strength."
"Strength from reading books?"
"Yes."
Hmm... it's probably related to Raziel's abilities.
I can assert confidently, having been holed up in this library reading various books, that you won't gain strength just by reading books here. The books here are about magical theories, types of magic circles, and their effects. If you're going to read books here, you'd probably grow much more by borrowing the school's training ground and relentlessly practicing magic.
"Ah... but, instead of just reading books like this, I have to earn money properly..."
I do receive an allowance from home. But if I want to buy the latest books on magic or something like that, I'll need more than just an allowance. I didn't say that I didn't need much allowance because of my previous life.
"Money... as an adventurer, right?"
"That's right. If you hunt monsters around the capital outskirts, you can make money."
"W-What about sending money to your family?"
"I want to buy more books."
"What kind of books?"
"The latest research papers on magic."
"Why not books on magic studies?"
Because the Magic Knight course is free.
