Chapter 40. Reward After the Test
"Um, here are the points returned, and here one or two points are added, so, um, let's go back here... like this?"
"Yeah, that's correct. You got it perfectly."
Clap, clap! Marin gives a small applause.
"You're still at an elementary school level."
"Suo-senpai, if you belittle it like that, kids won't improve."
"We don't need bratty kids like you."
Suo-senpai says disdainfully while sipping on blended coffee.
"Suo-senpai, you're particularly sharp today. Oh, I see. You're sulking because Marin-chan took over your role as my private tutor?"
"The insight of a high school student teaching elementary school studies to a middle school girl is remarkable."
Even though I thought Suo-senpai had softened recently, his words cut through me like a knife, reminding me of his cruelty after a long time.
"Grr... Well, I guess it can't be helped. Marin's teaching was a condition for borrowing this textbook."
For some reason, Marin-chan had the exact elementary school textbooks for the relevant topics.
"But why does Marin-chan have textbooks from elementary school?"
"I've been watching her teach Yuu, but Marin-chan seems smart, so she probably doesn't need to review her elementary school days."
Mina and Kotomi ask with puzzled expressions.
It's a valid question.
"Because I'm his sister."
""Because she's your sister?""
A completely nonsensical answer comes out of Marin-chan, prompting Mina and Kotomi to ask again.
"It's natural for a sister to solve onii-chan's problems according to the laws of the universe."
""Uh, yeah...""
For now, Mina and Kotomi can only nod.
"Marin has always had a strange intuition. For today, when I thought I wanted to eat mackerel nanban for dinner, Marin was already making it for dinner. It's mysterious."
"Because I'm your sister. There's no other answer, onii-chan."
While Suou-senpai casually talks about what he wants for dinner, this is a feat made possible by Maririn-chan's espionage resources, which she usually devotes to observing her brother Suo-senpai, down to every detail. Suo-senpai has been thoroughly observed by his sister, Marin. Even to the number of pores. Ignorance is bliss. I pay my respects to Suo-senpai.

(Doorbell rings)
"Hello. Mina, come in."
"I'm sorry to intrude. Yuu-kun, here."
"Thanks, Mina."
"It's a relief that your mom kept your junior high textbooks."
Mina brought the junior high school Japanese textbook from home.
Since Maririn-chan, a middle school student, was present at the family restaurant study session, it ended early.
I actually wanted to study a bit more and have dinner at the family restaurant until later, but since the textbook and tutor were gone, there was no choice.
"Also, this is for dinner. Let's eat right away."
Mina sets out a Tupperware container filled with what seems to be prepared dishes that her mom, Miria-san, had made.
"Huh? Usually, I go to your place for dinner at your house. Are we eating at my place today?"
"Classical studies aren't finished yet? It's better to finish at least the junior high school level early and then eat dinner and study."
"Yeah."
Honestly, I've lost my study mood since coming home from the family restaurant, but Mina seems oddly motivated.
I'll just obediently follow her as the one being taught, I thought as I arranged plates and chopsticks on the dining table.
"By the way, Yuu-kun, what are your plans for the summer vacation?"
While Mina is tapping her chopsticks on her teacup and enjoying the stir-fried chicken and vegetables in black vinegar sauce made by Miria-san, she casually asks.
Usually, Mina asks for feedback on her cooking, but today, she didn't ask anything and seemed restless even while eating, so it was pretty obvious.
"Um, I might have some work here and there."
During the first semester, perhaps out of consideration for being a school student, or because the situation on various fronts had calmed down, my remote saturation bombing didn't elicit much fear, and I didn't have many opportunities.
However, I haven't heard any news about signing a ceasefire agreement, so it seems like I'll get planned assignments for my summer vacation.
The enemy nations probably never imagined that their nightmare plans of raining artillery on them from above would be carried out during my summer vacation.
"I see... You're a major general... You must be busy."
Mina says with a somewhat downcast expression as she holds her teacup and chopsticks.
"Do you have anything you want to do during the summer vacation, Mina?"
"Yeah. I want to go on a trip during the summer vacation."
"A trip?"
"Yeah, um... I was thinking of going with you, Yuu-kun..."
With a slightly embarrassed expression, Mina speaks up as if she's made up her mind.
"Are you saying I should accompany the Kohou family on a family trip?"
"It's not like that. I want to go on a trip to Okinawa just the two of us."
"...Isn't it normal for high school students to go on private trips with just their friends during summer vacation, flying on airplanes to tourist spots?"
"Well, it's because this academy gives us salaries. We also got summer bonuses the other day. Actually, the academy doesn't encourage long-distance trips between students, but..."
"I see, I get it. Did you go with someone last year, Mina?"
"...I didn't have any friends in the academy when I was in the first grade..."
"Ah... I'm sorry."
I stepped on a landmine, and an awkward silence filled the dining table.
"By the way, why Okinawa as the destination for the trip?"
"Because there's a risk of Soul Armor users fleeing the country, being kidnapped, or abducted, overseas travel isn't approved by the country as a principle, right? So, Soul Armor users tend to prefer Okinawa as it's as far as they can go within the country."
If you're restricted, you'll feel like you're missing out if you don't go as far as you're allowed.
"Next year, I might be busy as a third-year student, so if we're going on a trip, it should be during the second year."
"If that's the case, I'll go with you."
"Huh?! A-a-accompany..."
"On the trip."
While Mina gave me a grudging response, I answered while sipping my tea after dinner.
"Eh, what?! Is your work okay, Yuu-kun? I'm thinking about 3 nights and 4 days."
"You'll be given three days of summer vacation. I think you can go if you combine it with Saturday and Sunday."
Until now, summer vacation was simply given and then disappeared due to the system, but this year I will make sure to use it to the fullest.
Summer vacation doesn't carry over to the next year, and it disappears every year, which was a shame, but I decided to take it at the best time to make up for it.
"I-I'm going to go to the bookstore and buy some Okinawa travel guidebooks!"
Mina hastily takes off her apron and leaves the house with a flop.
“Um, do you study the classics?”
My tweets didn't reach Mina's ears.
Until Mina returns, I might as well take a bath first.
