Chapter 5. Magic, Magical Power, And Crests
Now, about the crucial topic of magic.
Magic is the act of manifesting and activating an imagined concept using magical power as an energy source.
Anyone with a certain amount of magical power and an affinity for a specific type of magic can use it.
Even without affinity, one can activate magic, but it won't have practical power or effect.
There are attack magic, healing magic (also known as recovery magic), and support magic, as well as spirit magic and summoning magic.
Each type of magic has attributes, like fire-attribute attack magic and water-attribute support magic.
There are also special magics.
These can't be activated without the right affinity.
These include space magic, mental magic, and holy magic, with very few users.
I also investigated magical power.
Magical power is something that everyone in this world has to some extent.
The amount of magical power directly affects the number of times magic can be cast.
In game terms, it's like MP.
The strength of magical power affects the power, range, and intensity of the magic.
Magical power also has a quality aspect; high-quality magical power impacts the success rate, precision, and control of magic.
High-quality magical power also seems advantageous for learning new magic.
When making contracts with magical beasts, mythical beasts, spirits, etc.,
magical power is often used as a payment.
In such cases, high-quality magical power is considered delicious,
making magical beasts more obedient.
Spirits particularly prefer high-quality magical power.
Next, let’s talk about crests, which also interest me.
Crests can be innate, existing since birth,
or acquired later through training or inheritance.
Notable innate crests include the Demon King's Crest, the Demon God's Crest, the Hero's Crest, the Saint's (or Holy Maiden's) Crest, and the Sage's Crest.
These are among the most powerful crests, though other crests are known to exist.
So there really are heroes.
I'd like to meet one, but hopefully in a peaceful manner.
I hope they don’t attack me just because I'm a demon king's child.
Back to the topic.
The Demon King's Crest grants magical power-related abilities. The Demon God's Crest grants physical abilities.
The Hero's Crest enhances all abilities and grants ultimate techniques with certain weapons.
As expected, the Hero's Crest seems like a cheat-level power.
The Saint's Crest specializes in healing magic abilities.
The Sage's Crest enhances magical abilities, as well as thought and knowledge abilities.
These are the traits of the crests, but the specific abilities vary based on the host's personality.
The host can focus on the crest to understand its details.
My crests' powers include the Demon King's Crest, which grants affinity for all magic, including special magic, and enhances magic when the crest is used.
The Demon God's Crest boosts physical abilities and provides godlike focus and enhanced physical strength when used.
These are quite powerful abilities, but crests can't be used freely without limitations.
Mastery requires practice, and there's a daily usage limit.
They are like trump cards.
My father Asrad also has the Demon King's Crest, but I don't know the details.
Given how crests adapt to their host's personality, I'm curious about how my muscular father's personality affects the Demon King's Crest.
I could just ask him, and he'd probably tell me easily.
As for acquired crests, there are crests like the Swordsman's Crest, the Mage's Crest, the Spearman's Crest, the Archer's Crest, and the Martial Artist's Crest.
These are lower-tier crests that can be gained through short-term training if one has the right affinity.
Further training can evolve these into higher-tier crests.
For example, the Swordsman's Crest can evolve into
the Swordmaster's Crest and then the Sword Saint's Crest.
The Sword Saint's Crest is powerful,
not something that can be attained with just some training and talent.
But once I can use magic, I'd like to train in swordsmanship and martial arts too.
A magic swordsman style sounds really cool.
