Chapter 104.1. The Second Year at the Academy - Joint Exercise 2 (1)

Chapter 104.1. The Second Year at the Academy - Joint Exercise 2 (1)

After treating the injured, we returned to the campsite.

Each of us began preparing dinner, but unlike the morning, the atmosphere was tense.

The intense exercise left lingering tensions among us.

Many complained about their pains, and some nobles even picked fights with lower-ranked or commoners.

Though caretakers intervened to calm things, it wasn't enough.

So, I decided to lend a hand.

I gave healing potions with pain relievers to those in severe pain and brewed simple potions from Raslup grass for those still lacking.

Since Raslup grass is poisonous, I soaked it in water to remove toxins using [Operate Water], then quickly dried it with makeshift dryers using [Flint] and [Breeze].

While less effective than potions, it should alleviate some pain.

I may be kind, but I don't recall anyone complaining of such severe pain before.

Even my fists ache.

Thanks to my efforts, dissatisfaction eased considerably, and everyone relaxed around the central bonfire.

While gazing at the starry sky, I eased my fatigue with General's Tea.

Oh right, I need to find enthusiasts of General's Tea, even among the seniors.

I doubt Quince and Kyle will become adventurers before I graduate.

We need the income from General's Tea.

Even if they do, there's a chance they'll pass the work to other refugees.

It depends on Ted's decision, but finding new clients will be tough.

Someone with a stable income would be ideal.

A lecturer is a safe option, but the academy head is out of the question.

If I finish it, Rackendale would gladly drink it, but others might not be interested if someone else brings it.

Helena might surprisingly drink it as a pick-me-up.

"Good work today."

As I pondered, Elliott approached.

The squad leader, Lambert, was summoned by the lecturers to hear about tomorrow's assignments.

Felix went with him, leaving only Elliott and me.

"If it's settled like that, it's a bargain."

"It's not cheap. It's common knowledge that Alter's potions have high effectiveness. You were impressed, right?"

"It's only a part. The rest is just brewed from roots."

I shook my head and cut the conversation short.

"Anyway, what about your party members? I didn't see them during the exercise."

Today's joint exercise had Nils' Siglas squad against the Ejim squad.

Despite the chaos, they should have noticed if they were nearby.

"He was on the left wing. He was eliminated by the Elphimia squad almost immediately after it started."

"That's unlucky."

"He was too eager."

It had been about three months since Lanine was formed.

Usually, we fulfilled requests with Serade and Rola or delved into the forest together.

With only three of us, it was practically like a party of six.

Furthermore, the newly joined Nils had regained his original movements through actual combat, and Jonas was not clinging to Lily but striving to improve himself.

Among the veterans, Nails was struggling a bit.

Due to dabbling in sword and shield, magic, and slings, he was stretched thin.

I worried he might be anxious, seeing Ted and Gemma producing results, but surprisingly, he remained calm.

Maybe because he often talked with Daniel, or because magic swordsmen were said to develop slowly.

As we chatted, Lambert and the others returned.

Taking the tea offered by Elliott, Lambert began to speak.

"We remain in the Sobal squad. However, Elphimia is now with Ejim."

"Turned into adversaries. That's troublesome."

Lambert also nodded, looking displeased.

Elliott compared us with concern.

"But attacking magic is still prohibited tomorrow, right?"

While Lambert nodded, he didn't lose his serious expression.

"Magic is beyond our specialty, but Elphimia can use a variety of enhancement magic. Their magical power is considerable. We should consider tomorrow's Ejim squad stronger than today. Our captain agrees with this assessment."

I see. The captain, huh?

I never talked with Sobal other than hearing brief speeches before departure or exercises.

It must have been a deliberate arrangement, knowing Lambert's evaluation.

Initially, I thought the archers were a failure.

Ejim had abandoned the bows from the start, which led to the pressure on our main camp.

However, in reality, the arrows were powerful.

Ejim was fixated on victory, while Sobal approached it realistically.

It wasn't about who was superior but the difference in attitude towards the exercise.

As someone who uses a bow in one way or another, I sympathize with Sobal.

"The strategy meeting is tomorrow. Alter, you'll attend as well."

"Me too?"

"The captain wants to express his gratitude for today. He wants you to attend the strategy meeting afterward."

Sobal prioritizes gratitude over victory, huh?

I agreed, and the instructors instructed us to rest.

Quickly tidying up cups and such, I left Elliott as the first watch and slipped into the tent.

I was fairly tired, and my consciousness faded quickly.

I vaguely thought about tomorrow's exercise.

Elphimia as the enemy.

The next exercise seems turbulent.
