Chapter 213.2. Two Treasure Chests

"Alright, [Item Appraisal]! ...Hmm, this is hard to say. It's a skill scroll, but it doesn't seem very useful for us."

Yuzuki's reaction was somewhat mixed.

It appeared the skill enclosed in the scroll wasn't particularly valuable for our party.

While a skill scroll is unquestionably a treasure, there's a temptation to expect more from treasure chests in such high-difficulty dungeons.

"So, what skill scroll was it?"

"It's [Explosion], my signature spell."

"Ahh..."

Both Kazane-san and I echoed each other.

It indeed wasn't very useful for us.

While Kazane-san and I could potentially learn it, we both already had area-of-effect attack spells, and it wasn't necessary.

If we had to point out a potential use, it might come in handy against enemies with a weakness to fire.

We didn't expect to struggle against foes with a fire weakness with Yuzuki in the party.

Alternatively, it could be useful against monsters with resistance to fire, but our magic firepower wasn't our primary strength, so it wouldn't have much significance.

We were at a crossroads. We could use it ourselves, thinking it's better than nothing, sell it for money, or keep it for potential trade goods.

Yuzuki waved the scroll before Yusefia-san, asking if she wanted it.

"Would you like this, Yusefia-san?"

"I'm not interested enough to pay a large sum for it. You can do as you please."

The agreement in this dungeon was that we would have the rights to the loot as a rule.

In exceptional cases where Yusefia-san really wanted something, negotiations were possible, but when we handed over items, we would receive fair compensation.

Yusefia expressed her reluctance to make a special request.

So, the [Explosion] skill scroll became our property and was temporarily stored in my [Item Box].

However, when we started acquiring items of this level regularly, it made me think that letting us keep full ownership might be overly generous.

Nonetheless, Yusefia-san seemed content with this arrangement, so I let it be.

"Alright, let's go for the left-side chest! Open it up! Oh, wow!"

Kazane-san opened the next chest and cheered.

"Look, Daichi-kun! Could it be that this will fetch a huge sum?"

"A huge sum?"

I peered into the chest over Kazane-san's shoulder.

Inside was a pile of gold coins.

The size of these coins was about the size of 500-yen coins—meaning they were roughly equivalent to large gold coins.

But their design was something I had never seen before.

Inside the chest, they were stacked into a mountain.

Wait a minute. How much would this be worth in terms of actual currency?

After all, a single large gold coin was worth about 100,000 yen.

If all these gold coins were pure gold, it could amount to an astronomical sum.

However, just at that moment, Kazane-san's back shuddered slightly.

Almost simultaneously, Yuzuki, who was leaning over the chest next to me, uttered something.

"Hmm...? Senpai, didn't something just move? Inside the chest."

"It moved? What do you mean..."

I was about to ask Yuzuki, but then Kazane-san shouted.

"Daichi-kun, Hotaru-chan, get away from the chest!"

Kazane-san swiftly leaped to the wall to put some distance between her, and the chest.

Thanks to Kazane-san's warning and actions, I began to have a vague awareness that there was something dangerous about the chest.

But my reaction and movement were not as fast as Kazane-san's.

The gold coins inside the chest started to stir, and under each coin, 8 segmented legs appeared.

Each of these legs resembled those of a spider, and they were the same golden color as the coins.

Soon, they revealed their heads as well.

The golden heads, similar to those of spiders, had eight glowing red eyes for each head.

In other words, what we initially mistook for gold coins was something like golden spiders, each with what looked like a coin as a shell.

They rapidly moved, and one by one, they crawled out of the chest in such numbers that they began to overflow.

"Gyaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh."

Yuzuki and I let out a scream in unison.
