Chapter 43. Killer Wasps

Three giant bee-shaped monsters leaped out from between the trees in front of us, a few dozen paces away on either side of us.

The giant bees hovered with the buzzing sound of their wings.

They were a little more than 1 meter long, from the top of their heads to their hips.

From its rump, a tail hook as long as a sword extended.

They - killer wasps - glided toward us, gliding through the air as they approached.

They were fast.

Their approach speed was unmatched by the goblins we had fought in the cave layer.

"Yuzuki, range magic, please! Kodachi-san, I'll concentrate on the one on the far right!"

"Yes, sir!

"Understood!"

I give instructions to my two companions while preparing for a magic attack.

I'm not sure how long I've been doing this. But it's become the norm for me to give orders.

The killer wasp approaching.

But before we could get into white hand-to-hand combat, the three of us launched a simultaneous magic attack.

"Take this! [Rock Bullet]!"

"Here we go! [Wind Slash]!"

"Fire of the End, burn everything to the ground! [Burn Blaze!]"

This is the first time we're facing this opponent, we won't be stingy with our firepower.

We will use our maximum firepower to take them down.

Incidentally, the spell-like incantation that Yuzuki's saying isn't necessary to activate the magic.

I think it's just a chuuni.

The rock bullets I shot and the wind blade Kodachi-san released hit the same killer wasp, and in addition, Yuzuki's fire magic enveloped all three giant bees.

As a result, one of the killers wasps under concentrated fire disappeared.

The remaining two bees were coming at us.

Okay, we got rid of one of them for the time being.

Everything is going well.

"Haaah!"

Kodachi-san, who had rushed out immediately after activating her magic, attacked one of the remaining Killer Wasps with his usual two-sword dagger attack.

She accurately inflicted damage on it and made it disappear in a flash.

I'll take the other one.

"The end!"

I thrust my long spear toward the remaining killer wasp.

The killer wasp rapidly changed course and took evasive action, nearly dodging me, but I managed to hit it just in time.

The skin and body of the killer wasps were hard, and although I'm not powerful enough to penetrate, I still succeeded in destroying it.

We easily won our first battle on the 5th floor against the three killer wasps.

"We won..."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

I was nervous when I was fighting an enemy I had never seen before.

"Yay, a great victory! That was an easy win!"

"We did it, didn't we? Thanks for your hard work, Rikusou-san and Yuzuki-chan."

I high-fived Kodachi-san and Yuzuki and celebrated the smooth start of the 5th floor.

Then we went around picking up magic stones.

The killer wasps magic stones were supposed to get sold for 2,000 yen (face value) per piece.

The price of the kobold's magic stone on the 1st floor was 400 yen (face value) per piece, which was five times as much as the price of the magic stone from the cave floor.

"But I heard that we could encounter up to five killer wasps 5th floor, too. That was only three, so that's good, but if you underestimate them, you'll lose your footing."

"That's right. Be careful not to let your guard down too much."

"Oh, yes! I may look like this, but I'm a professional at keeping my guard up!"

"I hope so."

I smiled and put my hand on Yuzuki's head, and stroked it.

Yuzuki was moaning and fidgeting.

I don't remember ever seeing Yuzuki make a fatal mistake, even when we worked together as part-timers, even though she seemed careless and clumsy.

Above all, she's a mood-maker and a useful person on a team.

After defeating the three killer wasps, we begin our search again.

The frequency of monster encounters during our dungeon exploration averaged around twice an hour in the cave layer, but there seemed to be no significant difference in the forest layer.

After another 30 minutes of searching, Kodachi-san announced that monsters had attacked.

The group of monsters we encountered consisted of three killer wasps again.

We knew we could beat them without any problems, so we changed our fighting style a little.

I decided to change my strategy a little this time.

As a result, both killer wasps were destroyed and disappeared.

In other words, Yuzuki's [Burn Blaze] + my [Rock Bullet] and [Burn Blaze] + Kodachi-san's [Wind Slash] each destroyed a killer wasp.

The remaining killer wasp evaded my spear strike and came at me, but Kodachi-san slipped in and destroyed it with a dagger attack.

The enemy moves fast, so with agility like mine, the possibility of them evading my attack isn't low.

Kodachi-san hit it without any danger, though.

When we finished the battle, the last killer wasp that Kodachi-san defeated dropped a treasure chest.

A small box-shaped treasure chest - the kind that had a 100% chance of containing HP potions in the cave layer.

As usual, Kodachi-san used [Trap Detection], and [Trap Release], and opened the treasure chest.

What was inside was...
