Chapter 47.1. Flag In The Wilderness
It was positioned not far from Cherina's company, although I thought it might be in a distant place because it is formally called a fishing port.
From the pier where the large ships of the Veliero Company are moored, there is a narrow pier where smaller boats are moored as I go south. It seems that the southernmost area is the fishing port. The port was bustling as fishing boats seemed to have returned.
It's fishy, but I guess that's what a fishing port is like.
"Hey, Cherina, are you still fishing at this hour?"
"It's best to fish by torchlight in the dark. That way, we can return to port early in the morning. But for ships smaller than medium-sized, going out to sea at night is suicidal. Even within the bay, the tide's flow is complex. Going out to sea is really tough. To go out to sea, you need both a ship and skill. Even within the bay, night fishing requires a decent ship and skill. Day fishing is reasonably safe, but it's troublesome that the catch varies."
Hmm, it seems like quite a deep topic.
"It seems like the boats that were out fishing have returned. All the fishing boats in this town must be members of the Fishing Guild. Of course, VeliƩro is also a member, but since our company focuses more on shipping than fishing, we have fewer fishing boats. Ah, that's our ship over there."
Cherina approached a ship. Sailors skillfully carried barrels filled with seawater and fish across a narrow bridge.
"That's quite a lot."
Cherina spoke to a large man who was checking the contents of the barrels lined up in front of him.
"Miss! What brings you here? If you need anything from Mr. Bachal, I'll call him for you?"
When the dark-skinned man, typical of sailors from hot countries, noticed Cherina, he was so respectful that he seemed to shrink in size.
"That won't be necessary. Today, I thought I'd taste some fish for dinner."
"Miss, personally?! That's fortunate! We've caught quite a variety today!"
Cherina smiled, and the big man happily ordered his subordinates to bring several barrels.
"That sounds delightful. Akira, is there any fish you want?"
"Me, choose?"
"Since Akira-sama will be cooking, it's only natural?"
"Right, I guess so. Then let me have a look."
I peered into the barrels lined up.
"Miss, what about this one?"
"Oh, you didn't know about him, did you? Akira-sama, who is currently accompanying me as an advisor. Please be polite to him."
"Hi as an advisor?! I heard a rumor about that. but I never imagined he was such a young man..."
"It's better not to judge by appearances. Currently, the company is making every effort to realize his ideas."
The man furrowed his brows and whispered.
"...Miss... It's better not to say such things in public."
"Haha... We've come to the point where others can't imitate us. I think we'll be able to announce something concrete soon."
"If the Miss says so, it must be something substantial."
"Yes. Unfortunately, it's not a technology related to ships."
"No, no, if the company becomes lively, we might be able to increase our ships too."
"We're working towards that."
"Then there's no doubt about it. I'm looking forward to it."
While selecting fish to interrupt the conversation between the two, I inadvertently listened in. Being expected like that puts pressure on me.
"Well, that sea bream there looks good. Isn't it black sea bream? I'll take 2. No, 4 of those."
"Wow, you have a good eye. You're not losing to Master Paros."
"If you call him 'Master,' he'll sulk again."
Who was Paros again? That's right. He's Cherina's not-so-impressive older brother.
"This one won't do. I've been looking at it since I was little."
"I understand how you feel."
Cherina smiled softly. I see. This captain is an old acquaintance.
"There are horse mackerel too, there's a lot of them. I'll take about ten."
"Yeah, those came riding the currents from the seas just outside the Liberi Bay, so they're delicious."
"You went out of the bay?"
"That's impossible with this ship. But today, it seems like the currents from outside came in."
"Does it change so much from day to day?"
"Yeah, those who can't read it will sink to the bottom of the sea in no time."
The man grinned, but it was a scary story.
"This mackerel looks delicious just by looking at it. But it seems there's no tuna..."
"Tuna? You know about that?"
"Is there any?"
If there is, I'd definitely like to get some. The red meat, medium fatty tuna, tail, collar. Even the cheek meat is delicious.
