Chapter 142.2. Missing
"An agricultural factory was destroyed?"
I furrowed my brows upon hearing the strange rumor. The driver seemed pleased that I took an interest and continued talking.
"Yeah, vegetables have been expensive lately. Due to dungeon appearances, several large-scale farm factories in Tama District have been destroyed, causing chaos."
"If dungeons appear, wouldn't they be destroyed immediately?"
The dungeons in the inner town usually got destroyed quickly, but it's strange for precious factories to be destroyed.
"Well, you see, they did destroy the dungeons quickly... but the monsters that appeared initially scattered quickly and ended up destroying the factories."
"I see. That's unfortunate. But the factories should be able to recover quickly, right?"
"Well, you see... for some reason, they're not repairing the factories. I don't know why."
The taxi driver concealed his voice as he spoke. Hm... I wonder why. I can speculate, for now, let's just keep it in the back of my mind.
As I listened to the taxi driver's story while considering the impact of factories getting destroyed and not repaired, we arrived at the company building.
The Kamishiro company building is moderately sized. The exterior looks newly renovated with cream-colored walls. It's ten stories tall and looks solidly built with a roundish dome-like shape that I can understand being called a lab.
Exiting the taxi and entering through the front lobby, I saw a reception counter resembling a hotel's, with two receptionists sitting behind it. They must have spent quite a bit of money on this place.
Looking around, I saw several plush sofas and tables set up, with several men in suits sitting and waiting.
I wondered if they were here for a meeting with Serika, but as I approached the reception lobby with a friendly smile, I spoke to one of the receptionists.
"I'd like to see President Kamishiro, please."
The receptionist, for some reason, stiffened upon seeing my friendly smile and tensed her expression. How rude. I'm just a regular company employee today, wearing a normal suit.
[Your face gives off a dangerous vibe, Sakimori-san. But that's a good thing.]
[Thanks for the consolation.]
Ignoring Shizuku's words as she smiled charmingly, I looked back at the receptionist, who returned my smile with a strained expression.
"Umm, do you have an appointment with President Kamishiro?"
"Yes, I do. I made an appointment for this time. My name is Kamishiro Sakimori."
Yes, I'm sure I made an appointment. Hmm.
[Let's applaud Sakimori-san for smoothly lying without panicking. Clap clap~]
[I don't want to engage in a push-and-pull.]
Ignoring Shizuku clapping her tiny hands, I looked at the receptionist.
"Are you... Kamishiro Sakimori-sama?"
"Yes, that's correct. Could you show me the way?"
"P-please wait a moment."
The receptionist, who probably mistook me for a relative, picked up the receiver to check with the secretary. In a small voice, she said something along the lines of "Sakimori-sama is here..." and had several exchanges. If it were any other surname, the secretary would have probably turned them away, but since it's the Kamishiro name, they have to check with Serika. Heheh.
After a few exchanges, the receptionist, now smiling nervously, turned to me.
"Sakimori-sama, someone will come to escort you shortly, so please wait a moment."
"Understood."
It seems to have gone well. Good, good. It's a hassle to be turned away without an appointment, and I don't want to think of another way to meet Serika.
Shortly after, I was guided by a female secretary and taken to the top floor in the elevator. The secretary kept sneaking glances at me, wondering who I was, but I ignored her.
And so, I was guided to the president's office, where after the secretary knocked, permission was granted, and I entered.
"Hey, Sakimori. Long time no see. You must have missed me. Sorry, I've been busy with work."
Seated on a plush sofa that looked like it would sink in, an albino beauty waved at me with one hand in greeting.
"...[Trap Sense]. [Anti-Search Stand]."
"Gyah!"
I cast magic smoothly and sat on the sofa. Darkness appeared in the space and disappeared immediately. Then, I heard a bang as if something had fallen from the other side of the door, but it must be my imagination.
My dark magic skills have powered up, and I've also learned mental magic that confuses and knocks out enemies. It seems quite useful.
"You're merciless."
"It's a counter-magic against surveillance skills. Handy, right?"
I sighed as I looked at the visibly tense beauty before me.
"So, Karin, what are you doing here?"
In front of me was a mana mass resembling Serika, with Karin inside it.
Why are you disguised like this? It just looks like trouble already.
