Chapter 276. Clash With The Sahuagin King
We encountered four-armed Sahuagin in the hall in front of the palace exit. Next to the one appearing at the palace exit was a shark-type monster, likely tamed by him, and two other Sahuagin.
There was no sight of the female Sahuagin in black robe-like attire.
We were on the opposite side of the grand hall with the palace exit, just at the outer edge of the range for magic and other ranged attacks.
The four-armed Sahuagin, upon seeing us, twisted its fish-like face unpleasantly.
"Oh, what's this situation? The Merfolk grunts escaped from the prison? And..."
Without responding to the four-armed Sahuagin's words, I gave instructions to my two companions and heightened my magical power within for spellcasting.
Those four arms were indeed dangerous. Even confronting them, their true strength was immeasurable. It felt similar to when I first encountered Dark Elf hero Yusefia-san.
The four-armed Sahuagin continued to speak with interest in us.
"I don't know who you are and why you're here, but I was getting bored with mere grunts. I'll subjugate you all, and the two females shall bear my eggs. Consider it an honor!"
Then, after licking its long tongue, it charged at us with its 4 spears.
The shark-type monster and the remaining two Sahuagin followed suit. Combat ensued immediately.
It was clear that facing them head-on would be challenging.
The Sahuagin spoke provocatively as we initiated long-range attacks.
"Griffin, stop that shark! [Rock Bazooka]!"
"Slay them! [Gale Slash]!"
"Freeze them! Fenrir Arrow!"
We unleashed our maximum firepower of ranged attacks towards the approaching four-armed Sahuagin.
Awakened ones battles, even between evenly matched opponents, often concluded the first few moves.
The powerful attacks, like my [Three Strikes] and Yuzuki's Fenrir Bow, had a significant impact.
However, unexpectedly, two of the Sahuagin's arms, and its weapons glowed with a skill, deflecting our attacks with abnormal speed.
"What...!?"
I couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
My [Rock Bazooka] and Yuzuki's ice arrow collided with the spears with a resounding impact. My [Rock Bazooka] instantly vanished as if it were a lie.
Meanwhile, Yuzuki's ice arrow, though its power somewhat diminished, hit the Sahuagin King's torso, creating a blossom of ice.
Kazane's [Gale Slash], without being deflected by the spear, struck directly, enveloping the Sahuagin King in a whirlwind, slicing through its body.
It seemed to be a defense skill using the spears, some skill effect.
Perhaps it had a chance of activation and a limit to the damage reduction on attacks.
Even so, it was incredibly powerful.
The impact was significant.
My planned devastating blow in the opening moves had been drastically weakened.
The consequences were too significant.
"Ugh! What is this ridiculous power? Insolent!"
The Sahuagin King dispersed the damage from our attacks and charged towards us.
It seemed taken aback by the unexpected damage, likely due to the potency of the Fenrir Bow.
Nevertheless, our first moves were done.
The Sahuagin King's approach for melee attacks would be slightly faster than our second round of ranged attacks.
In the time that felt several times longer, a sense of impending danger crept over me.
I couldn't afford to lose this fight.
I had to focus, observe its movements carefully, and use my shield for defense.
However, an unexpectedly positive turn of events occurred for me.
"""Uwaaaahhhh! Human warriors are our hope! We will protect you!"""
Some of the Merfolk warriors charged at the Sahuagin King.
The Sahuagin King couldn't completely ignore this group.
It got hindered in its charge.
"Urgh! You pests! Don't interfere!"
The warriors who attacked got pierced by 2 of the Sahuagin King's spears and lost their strength.
Seizing the opportunity while the warriors held the Sahuagin King back, we launched consecutive ranged attacks.
While some were deflected or reduced in power due to the defense skill, not all attacks could be blocked.
Additionally, the Merfolk warriors' attacks, though minimal, contributed to the overall damage.
Overwhelmed by sheer numbers, the Sahuagin King's endurance proved finite.
After a struggle lasting several seconds, it succumbed, lying motionless with rolled-back eyes.
By that time, the other two Sahuagin and the shark-type monster were also defeated by the combined efforts of the Griffin and the other Merfolk warriors.
"Victory! We have vanquished the Sahuagin!"
The Merfolk warriors cheered, celebrating their success.
My companions and I exchanged high-fives and embrace, praising the Griffin for its job.
However, the Priestess, the Sahuagin woman in black attire, was nowhere to be seen.
Rebecca-san also remained missing.
Amidst the euphoria of victory, we wasted little time and headed towards the underwater cave leading to the Sealed Sanctuary.
