Chapter 22. Resignation Requests and Junior

The next morning.

I headed to my part-time job, and in the break room before going to work, I asked the manager for my resignation.

This is a part-time job in a world where even if one of the main part-time workers quits, the store's operations suddenly become very difficult.

The manager looked at me with bitterness.

But when I told him what had happened, he said, "It can't be helped if it's for Rikusou-kun's future. Good luck with your new job." He agreed to my resignation in two weeks.

He is a rather good manager, so I felt a little uncomfortable making him suffer for my reasons, but I had to make up my mind, or else it would go on indefinitely.

Two weeks is the minimum time required by law to resign.

Of course, I wanted to fulfill my responsibility at least that much.

I fill out the resignation form given to me by the manager.

Just then, another worker of the day comes into the break room.

"Good morning! What are you writing, Rikusou-senpai, ......? What? a resignation letter! You're quitting senpai!"

"Well, yeah."

"Why? Why? Have you found a new job?"

"Oh, something like that."

"Wow, I didn't expect that. I thought you were going to work here for a long time."

The noisy one this early morning is Yuzuki Hotaru, a year younger than me.

She was a high school student until last year, but she didn't seem like much of a high school girl, perhaps because of how she talked or her looks.

She was more like a friendly boy junior, a Chihuahua, or something like that.

She was short and stocky.

Her hair was cut short, and her androgynous face that I could have described as boyish.

Perhaps it is because of her boyish clothes, but she has a strong image of being a "little brother".

She is a gamer and a so-called geek hobbyist, and she and I get along rather well.

"I heard that Rikusou-kun became a seeker. He says he wants to do only that."

"What? ......? Is this for real? Rikusou-senpai became a seeker ......?

Hearing the manager's words, Yumizuki made a face as if a pigeon had eaten a peashooter.

Is it that surprising?

No, well, considering that there are only a little over a thousand seekers in Japan, they are a rare race.

"You said you became a seeker, ...... senpai, have you already dived into the dungeon?"

"Yeah. I awoke as a seeker the day before yesterday and went straight to the dungeon. The day before yesterday, and yesterday, I spent almost the entire time diving in the dungeon."

"How was the dungeon? How did you do the dungeon for the first time? The dungeon is located at the riverbank over there, right?"

"Yes, there. But even if you ask me how it was, I don't know. I'm doing well enough that I can handle it for now, but I'm still a rookie, so I don't know.

"I see. ....... But Rikusou-senpai, a seeker, ......."

Yuzuki is mumbling and looks like she is pondering something.

Yuzuki mumbled while showing signs of thinking about something.

I wonder if she is interested in seekers and dungeons because she is a gamer.

"Hey, has Rikusou-senpai's contact information changed since the last time you gave it to me? Is this number in my phone correct?"

"N......? Ah, yes. Is this the same number I have on my phone?"

"Yes, that's right. Maybe I will contact you someday."

"......?"

Yuzuki is a junior employee at my part-time job, and although we are kindred spirits, we are not the kind of people who actively keep in touch with each other outside of work.

I wondered a little, but thought it was nothing to worry about, so I let it pass.

****

For the next five days, I worked at my part-time job as usual.

Perhaps it was because my status had increased through dungeon exploration, or because the dishes felt lighter than usual, but it wasn't enough to cause any particular problems.

However, I kept feeling like "I don't belong here." while I'm working.

At the same time, I knew it was the right decision to resign.

I thought about going into the dungeon for a short time after work but decided against it.

One of the reasons is that there is not much time to explore, and it is inefficient for earning experience.

In addition, I was beginning to feel that my physical strength was getting too much for me.

I'm working full-time without a day off, plus overtime.

And if I take into account the appointment with Kodachi-san, it will continue until the end of next week.

If I pushed myself too hard now, it would be no use crying if it interfered with my dungeon exploration with Kodachi-san on her day off, so I decided to take care of the situation by considering my priorities.

Instead, I decided to spend my free time on the Internet to gather information about dungeons and seekers.

On the Internet, seekers were exchanging information with each other anonymously or through handles, and some sites compiled such information.

I read the information on the sites as if I were devouring it, I need to emphasize the parts that would be most immediately relevant to me.

Well, the more prepared people would probably say that I should have done that before diving into the dungeon in the first place.

I'm the type of person who can't learn effectively without hands-on experience.

Five days passed as I did this, and finally, the day of my appointment with Kodachi-san arrived.

After waking up in the morning and finishing my preparations, I triumphantly pedaled my bicycle and headed for the riverbed where the dungeon is located.
